I know utah lake is dangerous, trust me, I exercise extreme caution when taking my canoe out anywhere.... I was wondering if there are any decent launch areas where I can get back into marshy areas and protected areas? I've only fished the lincoln beach area really. thanks for any info or advice, mainly targeting catfish, I have a newbie heading out with me.

The launch on the Provo River in the Utah State Park would work.

Inside the marina at American Fork or in the area just outside the marina where the river enters the lake.

Public marina at Pelican Bay on the west shore. I launch kayaks and float tools there.

I was there this last weekend on my canoe. Towards the evening it got a bit choppy, but not so bad to make me really worry. We were at Lincoln Beach area. General Canoeing advice with regards to lakes. early mornings are generally safest, afternoons the wind picks up, then the wind dies down in the evening. Know your limits, if you getting uneasy on the water, that's probably a good time to get off the lake. Also before bad waves come the wind will pick up, that is usually a good Que to get off the lake ASAP, it's just a matter of minutes at that point and you might be too late.

Good luck, and be safe.

Two areas that are not as well known are the river outlet at the north end of the lake. You have to walk a bit, but you can launch in the Jordan and that gives you pretty good access to the north end of the lake.

Several others are the County park just south of the Bubble up. They have a nice wheel chair ramp to make getting your canoe down to the water easier.

I would get a map of the public access area's on the lake, as most of them would be suitable for a canoe launch !! TD has posted this a couple of times and you should be able to do a search to get it !! You can also go to the State Dept. of Public lands and Forestry and get a copy.

Too bad the Knolls is not currently on the list of Pubic Access points. Great place for launching small craft...and fishing too.
