[font "Calibri"]I and the little lady made a run up to the berry this weekend for a little getaway. Fished Mud Creek Saturday afternoon in the wind and had pretty good success for both the bows and cuts. The wind direction and speed was perfect for a slow drift presentation in and out of the bay so that’s where we stayed all day. The bows preferred a marabou jig three feet under a bobber while the cuts were hitting the curly jigs on a slow retrieve.[/font]

[font "Calibri"]Stayed at the Strawberry lodge and hardly slept a . Not sure what their definition of a bed is but mine isn’t what they had. My back and hips are still screaming. At 4:30am I final decided I’d had enough and got up. My wife wasn’t about ready to get going so I launched the boat and hit it alone for the first couple hours. Wanting to stay close to the lodge I trolled just outside the marina looking for salmon. I had my first 18” salmon in the box in about five minutes, nice. Following shortly after was a few slot cuts when two more salmon. Having one bow in the box from the day prior I had my limit and was done by 7am. Salmon were in the 25-30 range and was hitting pink squids and Kokanee Kings. Not being a fan of kokanee C&R I pulled in my lines and switched over to pulling hard baits for the trout. Trolled around for an hour or so will little action waiting for the wife to call. [/font]

[font "Calibri"]Having smoked a bunch of Flaming Gorge salmon the day before we left for this trip we figured a single limit was all we needed. Went for a nice slow boat ride up the narrows just taking in the view then called it a day. All in all a great trip with my little lady. [/font]

Nice pics, great report, sorry about the bed. Sometimes there is not much you can do. I have stayed at places where the bed feels like cement. Thanks for sharing.

I am headed up that way over the next week and wanted to try the Berry at least once. I have fished it once before. Where is Mud Creek? Were you tipping the marabou with anything? Between there, Starvation, Pelican, and the Green River, I am hoping to get my fill of fishing for the week.

I was staying at the lodge earlier this month and had the EXACT same problem. The bed was HORRIBLE. The lodge is nice and staff is nice, but we didn't sleep at all with that mattress. I have honestly never had a worse mattress in any hotel I've ever stayed in. We did mention it at the front desk when we left, but I doubt if the word ever got beyond that desk.
I am going to put that in some online reviews to hopefully get them to fix this. I would recommend anyone that has had the same experience also post reviews. I would definitely go back if it weren't for the terrible mattress.

Yep that photo turned out pretty good with it being taken with my phone. Its my new screensaver at work. Haven't tried the tequila lime seasoning. The recipe I love was published by Weber's grill in the "Webers big book of grilling". Awesome recipe but I always go heavier on the jalapenos.

Nice report Trevor, sounds like the koke fishing is really heating up with some decent sized fish being caught. What is the largest koke that you have ever caught at the Berry?

Biggest I personally have landed was about 3 pounds. The guy in the gift shop said there was a 4 pound pulled out the day before though.

A good friend of mine pulled a 6 pounder out so I know there's some pigs in there.

I was up there Sunday morning. You guys probably saw us; we were fishing on the bank. We did pretty well. I have a picture almost identical to the sunrise one. I took a pretty cool panoramic picture in the afternoon too.

I think the stated record is still 6lbs, caught on Strawberry in 1995 by a guy I use to guide elk hunting on DLL.

[font "Calibri"]Yep your right the current record is still sitting at 6lbs but I’d dare to say the records been broke many time. To many folks it’s not about getting your name in the record books. This particular friend is a “good old boy” or “salt of the earth” been laying brick his entire life and just loves to be on the water. To him it’s about a beautiful sunrise in the morning, big fish midday and salmon dinner with ice cold beer in the evening. Dang…… I’m making myself hungry and thirsty!!!! [cool][/font]

To some people records are everything as you will see when looking at the records and names in the guide book, several held by the same person. I just made mention as Todd was a friend of mine and a great guy to spend a day or two with in the mountains hunting. He was also an avid walleye and bass fisherman but I've lost track of him thru the years. He was a dentist and may have retired, I know he had a place in Mexico where he use to spend alot time bass fishing. Anyway tight lines and I hope your back is feeling better[]

man we have some pretty good photographers on this thread thanks , p/s i'v caught 4 lb salmon up there and a 3.5 to 4 pound fish put up an awesome fight. can't wait to get back.
