We'll in short a couple of my buddy's and I have been wanting to go to Mexico on a guys trip. But alas way to much money, so a recent post got me thinking why not go up to Oregon next year? Two of us live here in the SLC valley and the 3 lives up in Port Angeles Wa.

I was wondering if any of you could suggest the best time of year and some good charter companies. We would want to go for Tuna fore sure one day and the probably hit the rockfish the next.

Any suggestions on any part of this trip would be awesome. If you are not comfortable posting please send a PM

I have had great luck out of Garibaldi Oregon - due west of Portland, just north of Tillamook. My best luck for tuna has been the first week of August. It is always a crap shoot predicting weather and if they are finding fish as you are coming from Utah and have to book your flights etc in advance. Weather is a real factor because you go 20 to 40 miles off shore - it is an all-dayer. If the weather is too rough, they will likely stay close for bottom fish. If you have any problem with sea-sickness, make sure you prepare. That is a long ways to go to chum - I have not had the problem, but every trip I've seen grown men reduced to wanting mamma.

Hey if you like following daily reports, Tradewinds has a good website that will let ya track the catches. They said first of July they will start running tuna trips so your timing is good. BTW the Oregon BFT site is pretty useless they don't seem to have much help up that way, unless things have changed. Good luck and please report back. Later J

Oregon is great but if 3 of the group live in Port Angeles why not go from there or elsewhere in Washington?

Agreed! Neah Bay is one of the best spots in the lower 48 for rockfish, salmon and halibut. August is primo.

Huge runs of salmon predicted for Columbia River See

Salmon fishing in the ocean and the Columbia River this summer could be great thanks to an abundant run of hatchery coho and a potentially historic return of chinook, according to state fishery managers.

I went up there for a week in May last year to Coos Bay. We camped at a place called Sunset Bay.That was nice. I couldn't get a charter, because they kept canceling due to rough weather. I ended up having a great time catching dungeness crab off the pier. I would check on the Salmon trips this time of year. Good luck.

[#484848]If you are after Albacore, I would go around Aug 10.[/#484848]
[#484848]If you are after the big Lings, they don't let the boats go deep for them until after Oct. 1st.[/#484848]
[#484848]The fall Chinook run will be on about the last week in Sept.[/#484848]
[#484848]Anytime for bottom fish and they will throw out crab traps on the way out.[/#484848]
[#484848]If you have 3 or 4 guys rent a house around Rock-a-Way beach area and have a ball.[/#484848]
