Allison and I fished together this AM in the 2nd CCC open crappie tournament. 17 boats participated in the event. We got everyone started off in a safe fashion and were about the last boat to leave the CFP ramp. I motored to our first spot and were fortunate that no one was on this spot. Located the fish right off the bat, and Allison and I both missed a fish on our first casts, but on the 2nd cast, I caught a nice crappie over 12" long and thought, "Hot Dog". 6 more babies like this one and we will be in great shape for the tournament. Alas, we couldn't get another fish to bite from that school. We hit that spot 3 different times during the day and could only get 2 throwback crappie to bite. emoBang This was my prime spot today or so I thought.

We hit our 2nd spot and landed 3 keepers in a short period of time and then it was several hours of fruitless fishing as we hit bluffs, deep brush, etc. Around 12:00 we hit a bluff and Allison caught our last 2 keepers that gave us our limit of 7 fish. We lost a few other fish that came unbuttoned before we could put a net under them. We finished 6th out of 17 boats. We had a great time of fishing together and Allison caught most of our keepers. She is a good fisherwoman.

Our lures of choice were Bobby Garland 2" baby shads in Screamer, Blue Thunder colors. I tried several different colors, but none were appealing to the fish. We located tons of fish, but couldn't get them to bite. The major feeding period for the day was at 2:35 PM and the tournament was over at 2 and most boaters were in by 1:45. There was a brief flurry of activity during the minor period this morning and most reported that was the time frame when most caught their fish.

Thanks for going with me today, Allison. We had a blast. emoBig emoGeezer
