Hey everyone, anyone here made it to Gunlock Reservoir? I'm hearing good things. Coming from Vegas. Also- there's a mercury warning in place for that reservoir, can anyone speak on how serious it is at Gunlock? We fish to eat.

Yes you can launch a float tube after July 6th !
The water level at Gunlock is extremely low and the boat ramp will be closed until further notice; at 8:00 pm on July 6, 2014. The park will remain open and kayaks and paddle boards may access the water by the beaches, all Quagga decontamination requirements are required.

Edit- sorry I misread your post. In Nevada, I was stopped for a license check by a Ranger and he said Quagga stamp/pre-reqs were not needed for inflated crafts without an engine. Is that not the case in Arizona?
If I am required to "decontaminate" my inflatable, beyond cleaning it with cleaning solution (which I do head to toe on the boat before taking it out each time) can you provide a link to follow?

I'm going to call the DWR because I have a new float tube that I want to launch there. I'm going to fish for crappie. I don't think the mercury warning applies to panfish. I'm going to wait till about mid-August cause it's too hot for me right now.

Same rule as a boat, clean and dry for one week in the summer after being on any Quagga contaminated lake, like Lake Mead or Powell .

update:
got skunked big time at gunlock. arrived at 7am local time, left at noon. fished around every embankment, all coves, tried cranks, nightcrawlers, spinners five hours - one bite of any consequence from two of us
we bailed, went to Sand Hollow and they were jumping onto the boat per usual. Caught 8 LMB day one and 5 LMB the second, in addition to a handful of blue gills.
Didn't catch any over 3 1/2 pounds though. Bigger LMB are seemingly becoming harder and harder to find out at Sand Hollow.

Just out of curiosity, were you required to clean (decontaminate) your watercraft prior to putting in at Sand Hollow after having it on the water at Gunlock?

I assume so - we cleaned it when we arrived at Sand Hollow with cleaning solution head to toe just to be careful.
No one asked, though. I've never even seen a ranger at Sand Hollow other than for emergencies.

Sorry to hear about Gunlock. I'm going to wait till it cools off a bit down in St George and stick to trout fishing in the cooler waters. I can't take my float tube to Sand Hollow till I get some hip waders due to swimmer's itch there. I've heard it is not fun and requires treatment to get rid of it. I prefer Ivins Reservoir for bass cause it is close and I don't have to worry about swimmer's itch.

It's worth noting I think swimmer's itch only affects 10% of people- according to the ranger there. We were in the water with hundreds of other people throughout the course of the two days and we're good.

Maybe if I wore long pants down to my ankles I could avoid it and then I could change into shorts when I got through with fishing. Plus, the water will be cooler by September. I like catch and release cause I don't have to clean the fish or bring my fish basket. Did you hit the coves there where things are quieter?

At Gunlock, yes. At Sand Hollow we go around the larger "island" and it's coves/smaller islands. The one in the swimming area. Lots of swimmer traffic, but we swim and fish at the same time there, as the water's crystal clear. So it's perfect for us.
And we can avoid the boat/jetski obnoxiousness.

That sounds like a plan. I hate jet skis more than boats. I will probably try it in August when the mornings get a little cooler. I have a state park pass that I need to use before it expires.
