Headed out early this morning, but didn't have anything ready so finally got launched at 7:30. Had an 8:00 telecom for work and per standard form got my first cat as I was signing in. Ended up losing that one half way in. Then nothing till half hour before I quit, then I picked up another by a whisker as I was trying to net it, it got away. Went half way back and nailed an 18.5" cat then as I was loading my toon I picked up a burly 19.5" scrapper. Nothing new for the contest, but a few tugs. Too bad it took 3.5 hours to accomplish. Picture of the little one included. Later J

At least ya got out, AND didn't live up to your name.
And you could cover a workmcall while in the finest of office spaces. Hate to have work follow you fishing. I wasn't barely fetting off the oig, and the calls came in.
Yup I wish I could work from that office more often. I kept thinking if I could fish for more than an hour at a time I'd really nail some good ones. Not the case I guess, but I was happy to try for a morning anyway. Are you going to chase the cats this weekend? Have you tried your west side hotspots this year? I need to find a little size in cats and my spot seems to be low 20 inchers. They would be great if I was eating them, but since I'm C&R all the cats I'd prefer big ugly ones. Well good luck. J

Good to know there are still some biting. I haven't tried it in a while due to the tourism think causing my job to get a lot busier. I am planning on a night fishing trip this week on the marsh with my sons. My boy just showed up for a surprise visit from Virginia for a week and he wants to go spend a night chasing big cats with me, so it looks like I'll be using a day or two of vacation to do it.
Good luck finding that contest upgrade. You have a great spot to do it in and I'm sure they are still there. If the big ones are starting their spawn it will be a little slower for them for a few weeks or so. They need something dropped on their nest to get them to hit when they are spawning so it seems it slows down while they get the loving out of their systems.

At least you caught you something in those hours. I went to Benson marina and Cutler two days in a row and all I caught were yellow belly's. I'm thinking that day fishing is useless for cats in those areas so I may have to try night fishing for the kitties.

Maybe that's why they were all smaller this trip. Wonder if the biguns are busy spawning now. Good luck with your son that sounds fun. J

Hey Jeff, I bet you're right in that the big ones are in spawn-mode or at least close to it.
Couple of evenings ago I took my two boys out to one of my spots and we nailed 'em for the first 25 minutes or so, and then it slowed wayyy down. The biggest was only about 23", but I'm glad they got a few.
I probably won't fish much longer for the kitties since the weather is turning on the hot side. Maybe a couple more early morning trips is all. That elusive 30+" may have to wait until next year!

I wonder if you're in a spot where the channels don't frequent. For a little while longer the channels will be in shallow water, but as the water temps rise look for them to find cooler locations or deeper spots. We are just about to move time and I don't do very well for the cats after they leave the shallows. So its about time for me to try the Kokes. Good luck. J

Hey Derek I m afraid you're speaking the truth. Cats will be done in the shallows really soon in fact this is the same way it wound down last summer. Got slow and smaller fish. I'm not ready for that already. I was just getting started. Hey glad you guys had some fun together. Later J
