Decided to try for a few eating smallies at East Canyon today. Had a good breakfast and got to the lake about 9. Almost dead calm and 70° air temp, 67° surface water temp. Pedaled over to the arm near the dam, pulling a Rattletrap. Got two dinksters just as I turned across the shallow point at the mouth of the arm. Released both. Little did I suspect that those two would be it for the day.

I pulled crawdad cranks; I bounced a crawdad Gulp drop shot rig; I jigged white, black, and fire tiger jigs tipped with white, chartreuse, and natural Gulp minnows; nada. Kept seeing fish (probably trout) suspended at 20' over all kinds of depths. Saw a LOT of fish right on the bottom in 65' to 95' of water. Actually tried jigging for them out of desperation.

After a couple hours of this, the power squadron showed up.

The only genuinely productive thing I got done was to let all the mono out on two spinning reels and pulled it bare (no lures) to get all the accumulated twists out. Worked a treat, as the Brits would say. Reeled 'em in and hit the dock. Now 95°

Had a burger combo at J's Drive-in in Morgan. Cute young wait staff, good burger, and truly great fries. All's well that ends.

Yeah I think the heat is having an effect on everything right now.[unimpressed]

Did you try from the boat ramp around the corner to Dixie or across from Taylor Hollow?

J's It's all good........What No MRE?

I do the same thing with my mono every couple trips and it really helps casting distance, especially if line was wrapped tight previously on a big fish or big snag.

I fished Rocky Hollow (where else? It's mine, after all, LOL!). Mostly because it's a no-ski area.

I had intended to enjoy an MRE either afloat or at one of the picnic sites. I only drank fluids while fishing and wasn't really hungry yet after my ham and eggs breakfast. By the time I got the 'yak loaded up, I was too hot too enjoy one. Rumble tummy hit on the way to Morgan, so...

Those bottom huggers were likely your keeper bass. That is where I have been finding them.

Bounce a light weight jig with a craw tail down the rocks on the south side of the dam. Keep a slack line and watch for the tick or the jig to stop falling.

The bass will be right up against the rocks, hiding under small overhangs, you won't even see them on the sonar, but they are there, hiding from the sun.

That's why I fished Rocky Hollow: hoping to find fish in the shadows. They were there, briefly. After those first two, nada.

There was a pack of howling teenagers on the rocks by the dam. I could hear them horsing around clear across the lake. Their diving and splashing certainly scared off any bass. Not to mention the jetskis that zoomed over there to check out the girls.

[#484848]Stop and get a breakfast burrito at the River Burger here in Morgan, it should keep you full the rest of the day.[/#484848]
