Yes sir, it's true!
Through a lucky circumstance i had to run to tremonten last night to pick up the wife and i though, why don't I hit willard for an hour while I'm at it? Good call.
The lake was calm and warm as the sun was going down and i was fully enjoying myself despite the lack of fishies. At one point I thought I spotted a boil off in the distance but i dismissed it as wishful thinking and kept doing what i was doing.
Then the sun went down. About 100 yards behind me a boil erupted that was twenty yards or so across and it stayed up for several minutes! Ever seen a kickboat get up on plane? By the time I got there they were down but I kept casting and watching in the area and sure enough, they came back up within casting distance. Whammo! Skunk be gone with a chunky 16 incher!
The wipers moved around and came up in smaller double and triple splashes and i never got another cast into an active boil. As I was trolling my fly rod and my spinning rod through an active area BOTH rods doubled over at the same instant! Uhhhhhh....what now? I stuck my spinning rod between my legs and played in a 21" brute on my fly rod while keeping tension on the spinning rod by kicking away from it. Luckily, I landed the fly fish and transfered to the spinning rod which was still bouncing and screaming line off! Landed that fish too and had the biggest stupid on my face as I hurried to get off the lake before complete dark!
Best hour of my summer so far!
