Had a couple hours to kill, so headed over to the Bear River. Was thinking about Crappie and Bass, but the feeling wasn't mutual.
As I pulled some gear out of my rig, got distracted by pods of schlurpy carp in the bog, so grabbed my fly rod and tried to toss 'em a bone, well - a biscuit anyway. I did pretty good at dropping it on their backs, and behind their noses, but not quite right in front. Had one slurp up my dog biscuit, only for ME to yank it back from him. THEN I did manage to coax one to the hook, and as I reached back for my net, confirmed my tippet just ain't tough enough.
Now had I had my bow, there would have been a mess of unhappy carp! Easy pickens (until they all spook off that is). You've probably heard of Crop Circles? These are Carp Circles! Humpy back Llamas.

So - headed over to my designated spot, set out a cat-pole, and got to pitching grubs. No love on the line. Tried a few fan casts, then did hook up a feisty beast - a bitty kitty come to play. Alas, still no Crappie to tempt me, or the other way around. Had a few short pecks at the shrimp, and hook came up clean. Played with a few of these pint size kitties.

Decided to slap on a chigger craw, and bounce a football on the bottom - THEN my cat pole goes bendo, so as I literally fall off the mound (backwards into the weeds) - I get to my rod and the line is spooling away. Drag down, hook up - and a nice fight while 20 inch cat comes to show me it's colors.

Not my biggest day out, but for a quick jaunt - enjoyable enough. Skipped the skunk, hooked my first carp on a fly. I think I'll just have to try again. Once the bugs started to bite, figured it was time to get the kid her donuts and tacos. Save the rest for another day.
