Anybody here ever have problems with their TFO rods breaking while fishing? I have the lefty kreh pro series 2 and it broke about 2 weeks after I got it and then again on my Idaho trip. What the hell!? Did I just get a faulty rod? It looks like it broke on the same spot as before too which makes me think they just "fixed" it... Needless to say I'm not happy with this product and will be calling for a refund.

Get a loop rod! They are badass!

Sorry, I have posted several times that my Pro was prone to break ass well. Three times for me and keep in mind I fish many other rods so this is not over used in the least.
I will say, I am glad some other Angler's here second guessed buying TFO. I feel they are clumsy too.
Don't forget Allen Fly Fishing.

I will say TFO is not the same TFO of past, I have a TiCr & BVK. The TiCr I think I've owned for 5+ years not a single issue the the BVK snapped near the handle now the warrantied BVK the handle is starting to come loose....

Sorry to hear your having bad luck I use to be a huge TFO fan I thought they made a great product but...never again. Ever since switched to Redington & Allen my TFO's collect dust in the garage. Redington may not be the most fancy rods but price wise on par and you get the same customer service as if you were to buy a Sage.

My Pro is about 8 to 10 years old. The breaking of course started the first year, and it has sat in the garage the rest. I could not bring myself to sell it to anyone.
Oh and the cork started degenerating bad, so I wrapped it in Rattan.

I have a Loop, two Redington rods, and an Echo rod. All of the ones I own hold up really well. My Loop is the best all purpose 5wt I own for sure, but they are hard to find cheap. If you're looking for a good starter rod that won't set you back I suggest either the Echo brand (head to their website and check out their rod testing, its crazy) and I've heard really good things about Albright rods. They are super cheap and cast really well according to the best caster I've ever met. I'm in the process of picking up an Albright A5 6wt. Good luck!

Albrites warranty get any better?

Sucks about the rod Tyler, have never owned a TFO so have no comment on them but it appears they suck[Sad]

St. Croix and Sage are the only rods I own and probably ever will, have fished a St. Croix for as long as I can remember and got a Sage last Xmas…sweet rod.

I have had a couple redington rods and I really enjoyed them, My main rods are sage rods so this one was more of a back up/loner rod. So its not life or death but i still want the thing to perform like it should! Thanks for the init though, I will look into those albright rods for sure. Thanks!

I have almost pulled the trigger on a couple st. croix rods... Seems like a lot of people love them! I am however a diehard sage fan. Love those darn things!! You have good taste my friend [Wink]

*Update*

I called tfo this morning and worked with a gentleman named jim. Nice guy and willing to help, although he kept asking me questions like how my rod is stored, what I'm doing with it, am I "experienced" and know how to cast a rod properly... HA well after concluding it was NOT user error they are sending me a new rod tip vs sending it in for repair. They covered the cost of shipping and the rod tip so overall i guess i am satisfied. Im still nervous to take the thing fishing though! wish me luck[:/]

I use to be big time Sage lover. The ONE, the 99 both outstanding rods, never a Z Axis, but just my style. The LL was a dynamite rod as was the SLP.
I was all ready to drop the cash for the ZXL. Such a sweet rod. But I made a slight detour which ended up being one of the smartest moves I ever made. I bought the Winston JWF. Then the BIIx
So, before settling in to a nice comfortable Sage, there is a new mid priced USA Winston on the block. The Nexus.
Could be worth a look.

Love me a good Winston! That was my dads first rod and I remember always trying to sneak it out of the house without him noticing.... I don't remover the model though. I will check it out, thanks Joni!

I would love Sage or Winston rods I just can't afford to buy rods that are that expensive at this point, nor do I know anyone who gets pro deals. So I focus mostly on value rods at this point. If you've got $300-500 to spend on those other larger brand rods i'd go for it, but I can usually get two rods with reels and line for that price. There are a few websites that have good deals every now and again:

Steepandcheap.com
sierratradingpost.com (make sure you sign up for their deal flier)
ksl.com (i search this all the time looking for deals)

I hear you on the price. I never thought Graphite would go for $800. That being said, after casting one of these $800s I found myself selling some of those $2, $300 rods to get the "one" that felt that right.
Understanding that those less expensive rods are copying the tapers and material the best they can, you get some nice sticks, no denying that.
But in my case, I wanted the original, that is all. Knowing Tyler, I was just putting out this $400+ Winston.
I know you don't need it to catch fish, but it is a real nice way to do it and it is not all just a pretty face, there is some real technology put into them.

Ya I will probably look into upgrading in the next little bit... For now my 6wt sage covers me in most conditions. I have a little 4wt for dries that is fun as well. I still need to buy an 8 weight for carp!
