Fished Porcupine today, no other fishermen from sun up until I left at 1:00. Was a weird hot day, even with the wind blowing from the east.
I managed 7 out of the 8 fish on, quite a bit slower than last week, ran the riggars at 40 and 20 feet, both caught fish, but I was only catching them in one spot on the lake. Was making my last past when I noticed water coming in the boat, lost my plug, wouldn't you know it the day I forgot to throw my life jacket in the small boat. plugged the hole with my fish rag and called it a day. Water is dropping noticeably at the first launch point, and the spillway is dumping allot of water. Better get her why the gettins good.

Glad you made it back in safely. Thanks for the report Tim, were the kokes about 11 to 12 inchers? I think about a month from now is when they start changing color and you can't keep them after that.

Going after the big kokes this weekend, you going to make it over?

Better go get a bunch. The size is a little better than average this year. Thin a few more out and maybe they will grow a little more! Tasty little devils.

At least you lost your plug at the END of the trip! Did you launch at the first 'ramp'? Was hoping to head up there at the end of the week. Hope it hasn't dropped TOO much.
So do you have GPS coordinates of the "one spot" on the lake? (haha, as if!) I know my gear is no where near as sophisticated as Petty's, but maybe I'll get lucky and catch a couple anyway.
In case you don't know - if you get a hole in your boat, you just have to drill another one to let the water out [crazy](Stooges anyone?)
Curt the kokes were 11 to 12 inches, tried the dam (that was the hot spot last week, nothing) trolled the whole lake, the only place I was catching them, was in front of the first launch just making a big circle. that is where I launched as well (12' jon boat) so I just picked it up to launch it. The launch is still doable with a bigger boat on a trailer, but if it was me, I would go to the second launch.

Its a good possibility, I am going to Strawberry tomorrow, and if decide to go to the Gorge for the Kokanee Triple crown this week, I will leave Thursday night or Friday evening , I would be dirt camping at holmes crossing or what ever they are calling it now.

Yes fortunately I was right near the launch, that was where I was catching the kokes, kind of a moment of panic tho, once I realized, the water was not coming in that quickly and got the hole plugged.
I figured that was my signal to leave.

Will be launching from there Friday and Sat. morning. We are headed up Thurs after work. Tom and his wife will be staying at Buckboard and launching from there I think. He runs a 17 Ft. Smoker Craft with a Jolly Roger flag on the bow of his boat. Hope to see ya there Bud.

When I saw your heading at the top of the thread I thought maybe Steve was up in the bow of your boat, you know how he gets at times.[sly]

Quick question for you...
I haven't been to Porcupine since I was knee high to a grass hopper. I don't remember there being a boat ramp there.
Is there one now? Or are you launching on a dirt ramp?
[signature]
there's no "cement" ramp or any such. It's dirt, gravel, rough launches. Steep very bumpy road nearer the dam, or back by the last camping area before hitting the gate - couple spots folks put in around there, but one main spot.
But - do the campers know that it's a "launch" to leave clearance? Not sure what I'll run into on a Saturday. Planning to give it a try this week, see if I've learned anything.
As for the "full moon" - so what a pair of pig butts is offensive, but a lunar derriere is copacetic?
Thanks for the info.[cool]
I think my 22' pontoon my be too big for this lake then. Guess I'll break out the float tube.[fishin]

The second launch can be sort of funny. I was there a couple weeks ago and people put their beach towels right on the driveway to the launch. Then it was hard to get anyone with canoes to move much at all. I just started backing my trailer down and they politely started clearing away. Not to bad, but sort of funny.

[font "Calibri"]I’ve never put a boat on the pig but was thinking about it this Friday. You think I’d be safe to put an 18’ fiberglass on it? You know my boat so I'm asking you. I’ve got four wheel drive and brand new tire but I don’t want to get myself into any trouble. What say ya?[/font]

i DON'T THINK YOU WOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEM IF YOU CAN STILL LAUNCH IN THE BACK. aT SOME POINT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO LAUNCH IN THE BACK AND THEN YOU WOULD WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM LAUNCHING AT THE FRONT LAUNCH BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING THE TURN AT THE TOP WHEN YOU GO THE LEAVE. yOU WILL SEE WHAT i'M TALKING ABOUT ON FRIDAY. lET US KNOW HOW YOU DO. oPPS, SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS[
