I want to start this report by saying that I pulled a muscle in my hip on Monday. I'm having spasms that are very painful and I shouldn't have fished today. But, Ricky and I were scheduled yesterday and I was hurting so badly that I had to cancel. I needed to cancel today, but took pain meds, and went anyway. Now for the report.

We met at HBSP at 7:00 AM and our intentions were to quit just as soon as the heat began to build up around 10, so we only had 3 hours on the water total. We hit one point near the park and I caught a little 6" crappie out of a school and no more bites. So, we ran to my next spot which is a vertical structure. Fish showed up on the scanner in a big numbers, but like it has been lately, they mostly had lockjaw. I did manage to catch 2 Largemouth bass (both released) and 2 TARP Black Crappies. First one was 14.5" long, we took a pic quickly and released it back to the water. About 5 minutes later it came back to the surface struggling and I knew that it would be a goner if left, so we dipped it back up in the net and put it in the livewell. I normally release all TARP crappie. Big fish are hard to come by on our lake this year.

A few minutes later, I had a thump on the end of my line, set the hook, and thought that I had another bass. When it came to the surface, and we saw that it was a monster crappie, I nearly peed my pants. Into the net it went, but I'm sorry to report that it was hooked in the gills and bleeding out, so into the well it went. That was the only 2 crappie that we caught from there. We looked other places, but couldn't get fish to bite. There was a minor feeding period at 10:30 this AM, but by that time, Ricky and I were long gone.

I know that Tony Pardue will be glad to learn that the fish that I caught today came on the new Panfish lures that he gave away at our tournament this past Sunday. I have already forgotten the name of the lures, but I believe that I will be fishing them a little bit more. One day doesn't really give us enough info to see just how effective these lures are. They look like the old Charlie Brewer Sliders of years ago. I couldn't catch a cold on those things. The color that I tried today was bluegrass. I have 3 other colors to try. But, it will be next week sometime before I get back in the boat. Bed rest is the order from Dr Phil. emoBigSmile emoGeezer I'm not even supposed to sit down. Either stand, walk, or lay down. emoBang
