Got out Friday with Alvin and our co-worker Kevin, Kevin has been hearing our fishing stories for a while and he wanted to get in on the action and get some fish to take home.
We started out on my secret bluff hot spot and after 15 minutes had 1 crappie to show for it. We knew the fish had to be close by and we started moving down the bluff looking for them. We finally found them about 50 feet down from where they normally hold and it was TOUGH to get to them in the 47,000 cfs current. But we managed to get our share. Most fish were keepers and we started filling up the livewell pretty quick. After a while the bite slowed and we made a move to our other favorite bluff. We found (marked) a TON of fish, but we only could get 3-4 to bite, again mostly keepers.
Gave up on that and hit a couple docks with only 2 short fish to show. Headed back to where we started and boated 9 more to get us to 30 crappie even. Not the best numbers ever, but the quality was good and for 3 hours we will take it.
Awesome day on the water. Cool, no humidity. We ended up boating 30 crappie (23 keepers), 5 bluegill and a warmouth. Kevin took 17 keepers home with him (the other ones were squeaker keepers and they went back to the bluff). Water temp was low 80's and we were using 1/32 oz lead with chartuse bodies. The fish were holding around 15 feet which make it a challenge to get the baits to them in the high current.
