Has anyone been up there lately that can comment on the water level of lake? last year it was very high and most good campsites on the east side were under water and the shoreline was all submerged vegetation. Im hoping to make it up there this summer for some family time but the lack of some nice sandy beaches has been a turn off. have the conditions been any better this year?

The water has come down a few feet. There are plenty of public access sandy beaches between Gus Rich point and the rest area. None of the east side campsites are under water and it is mostly first come first served.
I live up here in Garden City and have been to the beaches a lot this year. they are great. They are still a little narrow, but plenty big and sandy enough to satisfy anyone.
There is no driving or launching on the beaches anymore except at rendezvous beach so you must carry all your stuff down to the water instead of taking it by vehicle.
Hope that helps.

sounds great, where would you suggest camping for a party of about 10 or so?

It depends on what you like as far as others around you, but if it were me I would try for cisco beach or south eden campground. Rendezvous beach has a nice sandy beach, but LOTS of other campers and you woill definitely need to make reservations well in advance to get a spot this time of year. The beaches at cisco and south eden are rockier, but less crowds. The water also gets deeper there a lot quicker.

We went with a bunch of friends to the north east beach through the hot springs site on Saturday and had a blast. Lots of sandy beach and you can drive to the waters edge. Don't know about the camping there though, we just played for the day and camped at the Sinks in Logan canyon.
