Hey there lonehunter,
Yep, sure do. I remember painting some of my old plugs with the stuff and catching small white sea bass in around the piers and barges in Tokyo bays and canals.
I'll bet model shops still have the stuff. I had both liquid and powdered and you could mix what you wanted.
Just wait till TubeDude gets a hold of your post! I'll be waiting too!

the stuff I use is called herbies magic dust. a powder you use a hoby hot air gun to heat your lures and jug heads then eather spuinkle or dip in to the powder you can also use perminant enamal fine tiped paint markers to paint on any designs after diping applying your base color.
here is their phone number. 708-997-2866 for ordering

they do have glow in the dark. I also use from the halloween outlet glow in the dark fingernail polish, the powder is a better producd and faster. I picked up a kit at the silverdome several years back.

OK you guys who put the creative painting into your lurs. What I want to know is this:
Has anybody EVER took the time to figure out if those gaily painted lurs actually make a differenct to the FISH?
Some time when the bite was on, did you try all the lures to see if they didn't like a few of them, and bit at others every time?
I'm curious, because I have a sack fulla lead heads of all different size, colors and with skirts of different colors, and I've never, ever, caught anything on one of those Jig things.
Out in the Salt Water I've tried lots of stuff.
Sea Bass are a lot like Crappie. They hang out in great herds.
Out there, when the tide is outgoing, the bite is on! I think almost anything dropped into thier midst will get a bite. In fact they fight over it.
Almost nothing except live bait will entice them if the Bite is not on. Not any color, or Skirted, or jigs soaked in oils and other chemicals. I've had some frustrating times trying to get the bite going to no avail.
Howzit in the Crappie herds?

Hey there Thudpucker,
Love those white sea bass! I love fishing the kelp on either side of Catalina for those calicos. I use almost the same color/make of swimbait all the time but switch leadheads untill I get the best bite. I usually use yellow but when red is hot .... it is really hot!
For WSB is use a banana in white exclusively. I didn't say the color mattered, it's just I believe they do thus greater confidence.

absolutly, color on some days makes all the diffarance in the world as to weather you are going to hook your prey or not.
I wont go in to the details of it here, but I can tell you in short that the colors you will want to use depends on the clairity of the water the time of day and the season.
I have switched from one color to another not by choice duirng a hot bite and found that when a color is hot nothing else is wanted, and at best you will catch a stray.
I have fished beside guys with the same lures and when a color was found to get hits we would all change over to that color, then we would all be landing fish.
as for you not catching any thing on a jig head, I am going to suggest you check out a vidio to see how to present them, there realy is no words to explain fully how you will want to present the jighead. it is different than most other types of fishing other than vertical dancing.
for vertical dancing the presentation in an area may vary form one place to another but once you develop a dance of your own, you will start pulling um up on a regular baisis. I got buddies that have nothing else in their box other than jig heads.

[unimpressed]Great replies. Thanks. I dont know if what we catch in Alaska are White Sea Bass. I've always called the Sea bass off the left coast of America "Black Bass" after the color of the skin. I learned the hard way to only keep the big ones. The fish under 10" in length are just too little to eat.
Years ago I read in 'Field and Stream' about lure colors and fish. They felt the good old Red/White spoons were the absolute best. These were tank test's of course. I tried spoons and spinners and it was just a mess, so I went to fly fishing. Much more fun.
But out in the Salt Chuck, and down here in my little warm water lake, the Crappie are different fish.
So I'll try some jigs next time I can see fish on my Depth sounder.
Some days they dont even eat a good minnow though, so it's hard to say whats heppening down there.
Sometimes you dont see the Crappie. You must have faith. They will hang out on the other side of a stump. You have to reach out with the rod, and drop the bait on the other side of the stump. Some times we have to stick the end of the rod right through the Cypress Fronds, with the Minnow pulled right up to the end of the rod, then when the rod's in place, you let go of the line and the minnow sinks down to the fish. If the Crappie are there, you get a bite right away. If not, go to another tree. But Jigs have never worked under those trees. Not for me anyway.
I did have a good experience with Jigs and the Dolphin off the West coast of Florida. We found a large school of the Dolphin. About 2 Lbs apiece I would say. We cast a Chartruse jig out into them. The bright jig could be seen going first one way and then another, being carried by a fish who was being chased by anothr to get that jig. Finally one of them would be hooked. I could have yanked it back through them, but it was mor fun to watch them play with it.
It was one of the best fishing trips of my life.
I dont know why this post is in long sentences?
