Looking to take my boy fishing at Deer Creek on Friday. He is going off to college soon and wants one good day on the lake. Any ideas or reports as of late?

I too am interested. Can you still launch from Charleston?

Can't help you with your question, just wanted to welcome you to the site. Good luck with you son at Deer creek.

At Charleston you would have a very long walk to some very shallow water.

What kind of fishing do you want to do? Bass, Trout, Walleye, panfish?

Trout and Bass. Any help would be appreciated.

Usually I do fairly well this time of year in shallow water ( for trout ) and really well for small bass anywhere there is more than two rocks together.
I will be more than happy to trade you any secrets for slimers in trade for where all those 12" DC perch are holed up?

Are there perch in Deer Creek? I heard one kid caught one ice fishing last year, but ti thought that was a fluke.

Oh yeah, I heard about that.
The rumor was that the two Conservation Officers at the ramp that checked his license that day admitted they did not even know there were perch in DC?

they are in there , we nailed a couple fat 11's a few weeks ago while chasing smallies

not sure on the numbers

Wow, how times have changed. When I was a youngster (many moons ago) my dad would often say, "I could catch a trout if I could get the perch to leave my bait alone." I would typically catch way over 100 perch every time I would fish Deer Creek. They were so thick that I could catch them on a small gold hook, after they had stolen all of the crawler off of the hook, aka a bare hook.

Yeah I remember those days.

When we were kids we would ride our bikes down there and rummage along the shoreline until we found some line, a hook, and some bugs hiding under the rocks. Grab a branch and we were set for an afternoon of non stop fishing.

They weren't the 12 inchers that are being talked about now though.
