Got out of town about 2:30 yesterday, drove about 80 miles, dropped the wheeler and headed up to a little lake, and I really emphasize little it you can call it that. Fished till dusk, landed about 20 fish. Used a Joes hopper with a bubble most of the time. You have to be extremely accurate with all coverage but were rewarded when you did hit a spot with no salad, here are some pictures.

you are VERY lucky that trail up uncle ike and eight-mile have been close to 4-wheelers for 3 years you can hike ride peddle bikes motorcycles or horse only. that is the kind of crap that gets our 4-wheeler trails closed!!!!!! catch and reliese try it you might like it......

Hence why we call it the meat board!

Just got off the Idaho Park and Recreation trails site and it says that the trail I took is open all year round for ATV's.
As for the beautiful cuttys you see in the pictures, if you notice all right next to the water even the double hook-up. All returned unharmed to catch another day! Breathe people breathe!

you may be right on the internet but at both trail heads it now shows NO 4-wheelers and the trail map also showes NO 4-wheelers if you take time to look at it. there are only 2 ways in I have been hunting and fishing there for 50+ yearseight-mile and uncle Icke creek out of howe. Glade to hear you release them buitys there are few places the size and color of the cuts still exzist.not being a dick just thought i might save you a fine.

I'm sorry, but your wrong Water-walker! 8-mile through Pass creek is open to ATVs on marked trails. Not only is it a very popular ride, but I bet I saw 30 or more ppl on that trail yesterday!! Razer's and all!! But when it comes to hunting, the rules are different! Just saying....

Beautiful fish! Thanks for a great report.

And judging from the Targhee NF motor vehicle map, the trail is open to atvs.

you are right sneekee the travel map shows it is open to 4-wheelers it is a fun trail . I guess it is a double standard . they have a map at the trail head now that shows only motorcycles can use it.That is about right for the goverment travel map say it is open map at trail head says its not. I will go check it out at thier office and report back thanks.

We have several trails around our Loman cabin that are that way. If you're picking berries you can be on the four wheeler but if you're hunting you can not. It gets very confusing and makes no sense to me.

There is a lawsuit against fish and game for discrimination . Why can non hunters ride anywhere they want but not a hunter . I believe you can use a 4 wheeler to retrieve game as long as you don't have a weapon with you , but I could be wrong about that .

I know there was a lawsuit that F&G won over this. I hope someone is trying again. Yes in our area you can retrieve game and pack your camp in and out as long as you don't hunt. If they are worried about the impacts of 4 wheelers on wildlife it should be across the board to all users.

I am lucky , non of the units I hunt have the restrictions .

Nice cutts, but are there any brook trout in that lake? They would be footballs if there were!

after seeing those pictures of the fish, i seriously doubt they were returned to the water unharmed. please learn how to properly take care of a fish for hero shots so that it truly is in a healthy state when put back in the water.

No brookies, just cutthroats. As for handling fish properly, fish weren't out of water for more than 30 seconds....I know how to handle my fish. Why can't some of you people enjoy the pictures for what they are instead of trying to pick a fight! Makes me want to head back to not sharing and say bye bye to the site!

I understand your emotions T. After all, they're just cutts! I'm sure you took reasonable care and gave them a great shot at survival.
So where are the big brook trout up in that area? Sorry, I have zero interest in cutthroats.

I was up there on the 13th and didn't see any dead fish floating around. Your fine. I don't understand why some need to form opinions without any visual confirmation or knowledge. I enjoy your post and appreciate the info even though I live on the other side of the state. By the way, thanks again for the help at Henry's a couple years ago. Would have been even more miserable without your help.

Come over ice fishing with me on Henry's this winter and I will show you the biggest brookies you have ever seen in your life!

if suggesting one learn how to properly handle a fish is 'picking a fight', so be it. someone has to speak for the fish. the knowledge i have is from the evidence provided by the photos.

because no fish were seen floating 3 days after does not mean fine at all. floaters wind up on the bottom in a short period of time within minutes to hours.

where these fish were improperly handled is hauling em out onto or over rocks, sticks, and grass. all these items even if wet scratch the protective mucous film subjecting the fish to infection, infestation, and disease. puncture wounds to the gills can also occur during flopping as well as eye damage.

holding a fish outta water for longer than 10 seconds at a time is another way of killing the critter. they are starving for oxygen they cannot get from the air, thus are 'drowning' in the atmosphere. during a fight lactic acid builds in their bodies which depletes needed dissolved oxygen to live. without spending time to revive the fish of which DO neutralizes the toxic acid, its chances of survival are decreased big time no matter how fast or slow it swims away. its hurtin' from the lactic rush of the fight.

theres more to catch & release than just unhooking and lettin' em go which is why i posted to please learn proper handling.
the fish does us a favor bitin' our bait. return the favor by taking some time to get it back to a healthy state before release, and keep it off any terrain or any contact with it.

Tazasorus...i am doing a writing project on this subject and would like your permission to use your fish pics. pm me with permission if so inclined. you wont be slammed, but will be given photo credit in an anonymous way like your first name and last name initial, or just your initials. your choice.
