Went to E. Lake yesterday to catch minnows for ice fishing.
We have 3 minnow traps that we have used almost exclusively for catching crawdads at Strawberry. One of the traps is black vinyl coated and the other two are galvanized silver. Total minnow catch out of the silver two was 4 minnows, while the black one got about 75 in an hr. They were all located in about the same area. We have never noticed a diff. while cray fishing.
Have any of you experienced some thing similar?
I am thinking of spray painting the silver ones to a dark color to see if this makes a diff. I can't see as there would be diff. between the vinyl and straight metal.

[#0000FF]I got clued in by a knowledgeable minnow harvester many years ago. Buy any color trap you want but paint them with a dark moss green color. Green works better than black...and silver almost repels them in bright light conditions with good visibility.

You can get spray cans of outdoor vinyl or rustoleum paint in many colors. But the dark green seems to work about the best.
