I'm planning on an Idaho fishing trip with my son in early October, going after Smallies. Any advice on where to go - is Brownlee still a good idea that time of year? Got a boat, so open to any advice.
Thanks in advance.

CJ Stike number one choice, we've caught over a 100 fish a day the last 2 weekends some 3+lbrs.
Give me a heads up when your driving by, Milner might be fun for the day. If there's water in the river we'd go for sturgeon too. Walcott closes to boats oct 1st.

I agree with dtayboyz, Strike number 1. The Hell's Canyon Complex (H.C, Oxbow and Brownlee) all fish well in the fall too. Just keep in mind the first big cold front will shut the bass down hard.
Also if you are fishing Strike, that is the time duck and goose season opens, so keep your eyes open and stay away from the hunters. That is my game in the fall, and I realize it is public water, but common courtesy goes a long way (both directions).

A few years back we were fishing the turkey bowl and there were decoys where I wanted to fish, so we went to another spot, unfortunately others created chaos and the fish & game will not issue permits now on the opener. I'm always game for strike, I could meet you guys up there and show you a way point or two. The one stop in Bruneau has cheap rooms, black sands has full hook ups, cottonwood has pay camp spots and there are primitive spots in several areas. Last week we caught smallmouth, largemouth, crappy, perch, catfish, trout and a squawfish. Have saw quite a few 5 lb smallies caught the last few years in the fall. 15 lb 5 fish sack is real common. Mojos right on: I love brownlee, but she's temperamental.

Thanks Guys, this is really helpful. I must admit I've never had the "pleasure" of getting sideways with duck hunters.
Dale, I'll PM you about our travel plans, I'm beginning to rethink our Oct. schedule and fishing choices.
Thanks again,

Bob, most of the lake will be hunter free. Where you would be targeting the bigger smallies (I love fall fishing because the hogs are feeding up) is not particularly very good hunting (in the canyon sections). Don't be scared off by my post, just wanted you to be aware. I would take dtayboyz up on his offer, he knows a lot about Strike.

im a big fan of brownlee in october if you can still put in at spring. it tends to have more action later than strike for me.tubing and dropshotting cant go wrong. other than the mainlake area and the narrows at strike i
can tell quickly when winters coming there .

Anderson Ranch can be a great fall fishery for small mouth if you know their hangouts. [

You're killing me with that picture! Those are some hogs! They almost make me want to abandon my duck blind for my fishing rod...almost
