Saturday my father and I ran to Deer Creek to test some changes to the fishing boat and to see if we could find some fish.
Expectations were low, but results were fantastic.
We started just after 5PM trolling the north shoreline for trout. By 7:30 we quit having caught 7 trout and two Walleye. Three trout came home with us (two 17" and one 19") as did one 18" Walleye.
With the sun going down it was time to hit the bass with some topwater. I caught 6 bass on a popper. My dad added three on a spinner and a bonus trout that gave him quite a tussle.
8 trout, 9 small mouth, and 2 Walleye made for an epic Saturday afternoon at what normally is Power Squadron Domain.
The water is cooling quickly. It was down to 68 degrees.

Sounds like a great trip! And it stings a little to hear since I was up there with a buddy a couple hours after you and we got the skunk! I guess we got a little bit of a late start. Doesn't help that we're both noobs to walleye and that's what we were trying to hone in on. We were out until about 1 am without a hookup. How close to shore can you get on the North end? I wanted to get closer, but I'm a little paranoid about hitting bottom. How close do you WANT to get I guess is a better question. We stayed in the 10-15 depth range. Any tips would sure be appreciated.
Great Report!

We were on the north west end running the rocky shoreline in 15-30 feet. We were primarily targeting trout but had one rainbow rapalla running on a deep trolling pole because I thought we may find active walleye after the storm.
Both Walleye came in on the rapalla. Although I think we had a third on a spinner but lost it before it got to the boat (it hit and "fought" very walleye-like).
I don't target the Walleye up there this time of year. We were just early for the bass so we spent an hour trolling trout with a walleye kicker.
The saying "sometimes it is better to be lucky that good" probably applies here.

Thanks for the info! What kind and size of topwater lures were you using for the bass? I started throwing a jitterbug after getting discouraged about wally. I got no love, but I wasn't throwing it long. I wasn't taking it very serious as I've never fished much for bass up there.

I use poppers primarily. The larger Rebel brand is my most common ammo.
Colors don't seem to matter.
Topwater is best right by the shore in the hour just after sun down or just before sun up.
