The only luck I've had a Hebgen is trolling rapalas directly across from the Yellowstone Holiday RV Campground, in the narrows just west of the Grayling Arm. I've seen and heard of others catching gulpers on flies in the Madison and Gralying Arms. Stop in at the campground and ask the managers what's working and they will give you some guidance - good people. FYI I've never caught a thing on the main body of water in the westerly end. The Lonesomehurst campground (public, just off the Madison Arm) is a good place to stay, both this campground and Yellowstone Holiday have good boat ramps. I'm just guessing, but the water temp may have risen resulting in poor fishing. This lake is usually considered an early spring fishing spot.
If you've got a small boat and are adventurous, give nearby Quake Lake a try, there are some huge fish in there, amongst the many many dead trees remaining after the 1959 quake dammed the river and formed the lake.

Trolling across from Yellowstone Holiday is a good place to start. Start on the east end and go till you hit the main body of the lake, Cowbells in silver, hammered brass work well also.

trolling the Madison Arm from across from Madison Resort west to the point can be good.

Also the west side of the lake rom the Cherry Creek campground north for a mile can be good.

Also up by the dam on the west side of the lake can be good and downriggers work well up there.

I have fished the lake for over 50 years and it is one of my most favorite lakes,

Warning the Lake can get very rough and dangerous if you aren't careful. Just pay attention to the weather, If the lake gets chop running over a couple of feet it is time to get off ASAP.

I like to troll the far side from the dam down about a mile, maybe 30 yards off shore. I run the biggest black and gold panther martin you can get. Down rigger or lead line, from 25 to 40 ft. The browns love that color of panther.

Was a great time even with all the rain. Caught a few browns and only one rainbow but what a Great Lake. Caught everything on wedding ring classics behind flashers. Didn't get any pictures,or to go to Yellowstone lake but I'm definately going back before the end of the month. Thank you guys again for the help hopefully I can help u out sometime
