Lets see if it works this time....

This was earlier this summer. It was a 37" musky that went nuts after I hooked it. It was my fourth and final fish of the day. My second one was the biggest that I have ever pulled out of there at 42" (pic 1). The following day my buddy Mike got a 38" (pic 2) that was a tank, and a 40"er (pic 5) shortly before that while I was clearing the 30"ers out of the way for him! I ended that day with a 38" and 37" (pics 3 & 4) on back to back casts. All fish were released.

Its interesting to note that many of the muskies at Joes seem to develop a blunt nose once they start to get bigger. Nearly all of the bigger fish that we caught had it, but none of the smaller fish did. I have not seen this at Pineview or Newton. Any theories? Fred K.

Looks like it worked, awesome, those are all good looking Tigers. How far of a drive is Joes Valley? The blunt nose is likely a result of the sterilization process, I caught a bunch of wipers with the same issue.

Joes Valley is about a three hour drive from where I live Curt. Nice area too.

That is quite a drive, isn't it close to Huntington North?

Yes just follow the highway further until you get to castledale. Not a bad drive at all.

i guess if you drove that far you could make a day of it and after fishing for tigers in the morning at Joes, you could go for wipers in the afternoon at HN[Wink].

Yeah, when I went last time that is what I did but in reverse order.

Hi Curt,
Joes is about a 30 minute drive past Huntington North. It is a really neat and scenic area. I have done an up and back in one day trip a few times, but usually will make it a two day trip and fish both days.
As far as tiger musky fishing goes..... it can be real hit or miss. The first trip that I made up there this year I caught 4 muskies on the first day, and my buddy got blanked. The second day we each caught 5 apiece. Two weeks later another buddy and I went back and fished ten hours the first day for one fish apiece, and eight hours the next day for zero fish. If you can get good timing and get them dialed in, it can be great fishing. But if they're the slightest bit unaggressive, it can be real tough.
Be prepared for thunderstorms every afternoon in the summer. Attached is a pic of one rolling across the lake. I shot it from shore after we had to beach the boat due to high winds and lightening! Thanks again for all of your help ;0) Fred.

Thanks! It sounds like you've been up there before too? I try to get up there once or twice a year. Take care, Fred.

I went up there last year. Nice place. Haven't been able to get up there this year like I wanted. Perhaps next year.

I've never fished it in the fall, so I'd be interested to hear how you do. The fishing can be hot on the right days, and ice cold on the wrong days, so be prepared for a long day of follow after follow. Good luck! Fred.

The next best thing to being there is watching a fellow BTF'er slay them on video!

Great job Fred. And thanks for Sharing!
