Well, I wanted to go do some perch searching this morning at rockport, with a tip from wiperhunter 2 ,but the &@$! Was blowing too much for me to fight against in the float tube. So I headed to deer creek in search of a toothy critter. When I started the air temp in the upper 30's at 8 am with water temps in the mid 50's. I launched at the first pull off on 189 before the island state park. I kicked my fins all the way across to the railroad side of the lake, great exercise. I would come across some fishy looking marks on the finder, probably sliders or carp. Tried all sorts of colors of jigs tipped with some perch meat finessed off the bottom in depths from 15 to 45 ft deep. Sometime after 10 I decided to head towards the island and change my tactics to a gulp minnow in about 35 ft I get a slight tick, the kinda tick that could be from a walleye, I set the hook and it's not fighting like a trout, so I was getting pretty excited, then when I get it close to the tube, I can see a toothy critter, but it's not a walleye, but a 18 inch healthy brown trout. He or she went into the basket for dinner. I then saw a ton of planters in close towards shore, so I switch to a small gold castmaster and proceed to catch several 12 inch planters that gave some great tugs. Since I work graves, I called it a day at noon. Nice day to be out. I haven't seen too many tubes that are the same color as mine, it's a fat cat that is grey and orange.
