Arrived at Yellowstone Lake 7:30am. We were the only boat on the water all day! Watched the sun rise and later set on this gorgeous place...fishing was great too!

Those are beautiful!!! Is that first one a Brookie or a Dolly?
I so have to hit that lake.

DUH! I forgot about the Lakers. Are they still a mandatory kill?

Dolly's have their pink polka dots.
Can kinda see them in the upper fish. BIG mouth fish!

Were lakers a bucket product, or just changing gear for cutts?
I have never fished the big lake this late in the year. I always fish it in June. Were you having to troll in deep water to find the fish? In June, we fish in water 12' or less right to the shoreline, throwing mainly spoons and Jakes. I have wondered about going back up in the late fall because of the Lakers. Did you have to work to find them, or were they in the usual spots? Or were they deep? Thanks for the report. Anything helps to get rid of the lakers, though they are good eating; especially from that cold lake. But I have been fishing that lake for 45 years. It use to be an awesome place to sight cast flies for nice cuts. Hopefully, it will get that way again while I can still cast a fly.

I usually hit it in the spring as well, just like you explained. I've been fishing it for 18yrs now. I catch a lot of lakers in the spring , most on gold hardware....choose your favorite. caught two on a trolling sinking line on a black leech pattern. We had to search around for schools but when we found them they were mostly between 20-40ft down. I highly recommend this trip! If you don't have a larger boat-the west thumb has great access for tubes/pontoon boats.
