First time caller, long time listener. Just spent ten days in Myrtle Beach and it got me back into the sport fishing hobby after a 20 year layoff. I am looking to buy a rob and reel and was wondering if there is a saltwater/freshwater hybrid available as I see myself fishing estuaries a lot in the future. Caught about a dozed big catfish and one baby black tip (I think) shark in an estuary in Murrell's Inlet. Is there a market for the type of rod I am interested in? Many thanks!

Welcome to the site SSP,What type of reel were you using when you caught the cat and shark? Were you using a baitcaster, spinning or level wind reel? There are a lot of rods that will work for you, depending on how much you want to spend but it sounds like you were catching some large fish, so a heavy or med heavy rod should work for you, depending on your budget.

Many thanks for the welcome. I was using a baitcaster and the bullhead were all bigger than the shark lol. Ideally I am looking in the $500 to $1k range

WH2 is correct in saying a Med/Heavy rod will do both. It's all about the size of the fish. Sounds like your looking for a light saltwater rod. I use a heavy 7ft rod with a 3000 series reel. You need a real that can take 20lb line it seems. But you can get two great setups for $500-$700. I like shimano.
