I only had about 3 hours to fish this afternoon after Lowe's delivered our new gas dryer, so I had Wanda put me in the lake and I moved to a brushpile nearby that I planted in the spring. It had fish on it. I caught a 12" white crappie on first cast. 12" black crappie on 2nd cast. Short crappie on 3rd cast. Then another keeper in a few casts. I decided that I would leave the spot if I had 3 fishless casts. I would get two fishless casts, then catch a keeper. Then the same thing happened again. Finally, I decided to leave fish to find fish. Bad choice. I moved to a bluff and caught another nice 12" black crappie, then the phone rang. It was Candi.

I had sent her a pic of the first fish and didn't think about asking her to fish since I only had a short time. She was blowing leaves and decided that fishing would be more fun, so I picked her up at the Wolftever ramp. Must have been a jinx. About the time that she got in the boat, the wind decided to pick up to nearly white capping strength. We hit one spot that I wanted to try, but only small fish came from there and the wind was howling and we couldn't present our lures properly, so we looked for easier fishing conditions. We never caught another fish.

I did take home 6 very nice keepers for our family fish fry this Thursday, and we had about 6 more shorts. Thanks for going with me today on this short trip, Candi. Beats blowing leaves by a bunch. I'm going in the morning early and try to beat the wind. Wish me luck.

emoBig emoGeezer
