Thanks for posting the link K2. This does not surprise me, with only a half dozen years since BFT started the first Burbot bash, I would say they have done a lot of good. With all the doom and glum forecasted at the time I never thought they could be controlled this quick. Of course guides like Fishly have put a big dent in their population as well. But just by holding contest, where people can win some decent money, the burbot numbers have been brought down to controllable numbers. They should try the same tactic for the carp, in places like Utah lake it might work[
], no it would never work. [:/]

Good to hear their population is on the decline, even though i dont fish there. I agree with you wiperhunter, carp tourny at utah lake would be fun. How about yuba res for pike? Crappie at Pineview? Maybe instead of having a trout tournys, go for fish that need to be controlled.

I was thinking the same thing about a chub-fest at Scofield.
A prize for total chub weight taken in a day....

We hit it last weekend pretty hard last year we were catching over a hundred a couple nights. This year are biggest night was four so yes there has been a huge dent in the burbot witch is great news.

Can you say June Sucker recovery Program - Carp netting project !! The Loy's have been taking millions of pounds a year, trying to get them under control. Not sure what the cost has been to date, but total cost for the project is around $150,000,000.00 Don't believe Burbot are as productive as Carp are !!

i believe if there was that kind of money on the line that folks would be willing to put in the time for a chance to win a prize that large. Would it work, maybe but it would take a lot of infrastructure in place to pull it off. I'll have to look it up but if my memory is correct each female burbot can produce 300,000 eggs each. Any idea how many a carb produce?

1fishwisperer, have you been out since the weather turned cold? Any better luck on the burbs?
Anyone else been out to FH to update if any ice has formed?

not sure about the decline.. my knowledge is every female can lay 300,000 eggs a spawn and have up to 2 spawns per winter. im sure with the success of events like the burbot bash and reeling for life it has taken a huge toll on the population but at any given winter that population could flourish again.
