I sure wish it was that low in Northern Utah[Sad], it is right around $2.40 to $2.50 a gallon here.
After looking at the link I guess the gas prices are checker at Costco and Sams club.

Well at least gas price is .56 cheaper then last year and gas went down to .02 just after I woke up and check it again [angelic]

Not sure what is going on in the Ogden area. The USA Gas place in Brigham City was 2.17 and even it Logan you can find it the 2.20's. Ogden was 2.49 the other day at several stations including the Maverik right off the freeway where it is usually very cheap. Strange.

I have noticed the prices are a lower in Brigham, the only thing I can figure is local taxes are higher here but it could be greed. They feel they need to stick it to us in the local area[:/].

Just got back from Kansas last week. Gas was $1.89 then. $1.81 now. What's up with Utah?

Filled up monday at the costco in bountiful at $2.15 per gallon.

I filled up (and I do mean fill...light was just about to ding on while I was waiting in line for half an hour!) at Bountiful Costco on Saturday 12/27 for $21! Haven't been able to fill a tank for that since high school, 15 years ago!
But yesterday GasBuddy said average prices are rising again, so I guess I'm glad I got in that $1.99 fix while I could.

In September my adventures took me across country. The deeper I went into the southern routes the cheaper fuel was getting. Driving a Cadillac Escalade we use premium fuel and it will burn regular unleaded without issues. Every time I fueled up I was paying premium prices lower than regular unleaded prices in Utah. Being away from home at those prices didn't allow for complaints since it really helps out. Our route brought us home in the more northern central region. As we passed thru St Louis price increases started becoming noticeable. By the time we came thru Cheyenne, WY prices were about the same as when we first left.
About 3wks ago I talked to a friend in Sacramento and he said fuel prices there dropped lower than what we are paying here. Go figure, Calif fuel prices cheaper than Utah? What I did notice we have much better road conditions than most and a tax increase at the pumps are on the table. Are we getting hosed? Maybe but the road improvements gives a different story.

Good thoughts there Roger, I had not thought about it like that, maybe that is why we are always seeing some sort of road repairs going on in Utah everywhere you travel during the warm months. Don't quote me on this but i believe someone said we pay 50 cent per gallon in taxes here in Utah. While I'm sure it goes to many different venues, I bet a large part of it goes to road repairs.

Curtis,

Every gas pump shows you how much you pay in taxes (look for the sticker). BTW -- the taxes do not vary from locality to locality in Utah. The tax is also higher on diesel.

Here you go:

Utah State tax on gasoline and diesel:

$.245

Federal tax on:

Gasoline $.184
Diesel $.244

Really? I thought different cities or counties charge more or less depending on location. Like when you drive up to Heber or Brigham city and gas is lower. What are your thoughts on why gas is lower in places like that, if it isn't taxes?

It is all about competition, because the taxes don't vary. Ever notice how many service stations there are in Heber City?
[signature]
Yes, there are a few gas stations in Heber but they were all close to the same price, until Maverik came to town[Wink].

Curt, here is something else. I know of some folks that left northern Calif to take on jobs in North Dakota at the oil sites. Due to lower fuel costs we are getting at the pumps, a lot of those folks are now not getting the hours on the job indicating we have a surplus plus our country is taking over as a leader in world oil exports. With the holding out on the construction of the pipeline, just imagine what good can come from it being built. That day is coming.

Sales tax is also built into the pump price. That can account for a small difference depending on location. Gas is always a couple cents higher in Davis than Weber Counties, for example.

And Smiths in Heber blows Maverick away. My sister lives in Tx. They have been below $2. for quite awhile, but their property taxes are crazy! So it all comes out in the was. I do agree Utah is gouging us though when I can spit in the breeze and hit the refinery, BUT Idaho is 20 cents cheaper. They are always a few cents higher.
I guess Utah wants to make a few more fancy intersections that totally screw people up.

And what really gets me steaming is I drive California Ave. There is 215 at one end just west of Redwood Rd. and I15 at the other end just east of 7th west. BUT, good ol Becker has taken that stretch in between 7th and Redwood and funneled it down to one lane!!! Try turning left during peak hours! For a Bicycle lane. They do not pay road taxes, cars do. There is maybe 1 in 1000 bikes in this stretch. Got to love engineers.

The sales tax rates (as of 1/1/15) are:
Davis County cities, either 6.5 or 6.6%
Ogden 6.85%
Heber City 6.25%
Brigham City 6.5%

I think one has to look elsewhere to attempt to figure out why the price per gallon for gasoline varies so much from one Utah locality to another.

You must be referring to Smiths being lower with grocery purchases if applied.

Heber Gas prices according to Gas Buddy :

Maverick 2.04
Smiths 2.04
Shell 2.09
Sinclair 2.09
7-Eleven 2.09
