I was reading in an old fishing book and it said a good way to get used to the habits and places that Largemouth utilize is to catch a lot and the best place is somewhere like private water. He mentioned Granita Park, but that no longer functions as a pay to fish fishery right? I was wondering if there are still any of those kind of bass fisheries left.

Not in this state that I know of. Out of state yes. Florida has one owned by Disney.

There are private places to fish but most of them are kept private and watched closely. There is a place in Tooele, the guy advertises on KSL but its a warm spring and all the fish are congregated in one spot in the winter.
There are enough places to bass fish in Utah that you should be able to figure it out. They may not be the best fishing as of late but they are still in there.

I fish a couple of private bass ponds here in Utah (not pay to play types) and though they are fun to fish and I've been able to test many different presentations I wouldn't say they provide "real world" opportunities. The fish are often subject to higher cmpetition among themselves and they aren't heavily pressured by anglers so the fish behave somewhat differently than public water fish. I often use the private fish to help me to learn and gain confidence in a particular presentation but I usually have to tweek it when I'm on public water.
