Well today we went out and got on the ice at mudcreek by 6:30. No wind but colder than all get out. I set a can of room temperature rockstar on the ice and by the time I had the tent set up and the rods in place it had frozen to slush. Had to clear off the holes every 4 minutes or so and even so the jaw jackers were basically useless with how fast the ice was covering up the whole. Tried an array of new and old jigs, ice flies and Marlboro jigs etc that usually worked but fish would come through on the finder, look, and take off. First 5.5 hours not a bite between the two of us. Finally I tied on my old good luck charm for the berry and managed to ice a couple including one nice 2lb bow who came home for the smoker. Everyone we talked to in the mud creek area had pretty slow fishing as well. Most moved around quite a bit. WARNING ICE IS NOT SAFE IN ALL OF MUD CREEK! A couple guys said they drilled their first whole and had about 1.5" of good ice, some water, and then 1.5"of frozen slush on top. They relocated real quick. Just make sur that if you are going out at any of these lakes with fresh untested ice you still test holes as you go and have someone with you just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the report, we was there yesterday and the ice had me way nervous. Was wondering if it would have improved over night. I witnessed a pressure ridge rise a foot not 50' from where I was sitting. The ice actually moved snow up the shoreline 3". But anyways fishing was slow for us too, 9 cuts between the 2 of us all day. Seen plenty swimming thru.

Hahaha! That's what I get for using dictate on my cell phone, didn't even notice, but yeah fish must be on the patch this year because those Marlboro's didn't help anything. Haha but as I'm sure you've guess they were maribou jigs and they didn't help either.
