Fished Mantua yesterday. The fishing was decent, but not hot. Caught a dozen perch 2 Bluegill and 1 small bass.

Be careful in the main lake, the snow covered bays are fine. Had no problem getting on and off the ice. However, I spotted at least a half dozen holes of open water in the middle and on the west side. Some of the open areas were fairly large and the area around them was soft. I recommend keeping your children and pets close by and not let then wander very far. These areas were not easy to spot unless you get close.

The road going around the South side was a little sloppy around 3 pm when I left.

I'll vouch for that...I had assumed they were warm springs because of the shape/structure. I should have taken a pic. I spotted a couple of these circular open water areas.

Lavaman,

I moved around a lot yesterday near the middle of the lake. I spotted at least 6 open areas large enough to swallow a person. No way am I going to walk out until it gets light enough to spot them agian. Did you notice they were difficult to see? The water is below the ice, at first I thought they had been drilled with a large auger.

With this warm spell I think a lot of places will be unsafe. Thanks for the warning.
