Fished Soldier Creek with friends today. What a beautiful day – sunny and almost no wind! First time ice fishing there. Fished from 8-2 in both 28 and 14 FOW – ice was 8-9 in – A mixed bag of scenarios worked - sometimes on the bottom but coaxed up then they’d strike, sometimes suspended - deadsticking at 10 FOW. Bait used was either red cutterbugs, white gizillas or blue ratsos – each tipped with waxies. Came home with 6 rainbows (16in being our largest, had one dink cutt that was released to grow up and one 18in cutt that of course was also released). Others in the group also caught about the same size rainbows. Everyone we talked with was VERY polite, helpful and friendly – really made for a great day to be out on the hard deck. Special big thanks to the guy with the snowmobile who helped us get our sleds up that hill and those that helped get our sleds in the truck after someone parked right up close behind us. Kudos.

Wanting to take my kids up there. Is this accessible from the main road and walkable (do not have snowmobiles)?

Youngest is 7 years old so want to make sure it isn't a killer hike!

Not as much traffic as you'd expect being nearer to the access parking on the road. Folks were evenly spread out.

there's a parking area - parking along the main road is not allowed. Also there's a sledding hill close by if the fish aren't biting! All the snowmobilers were very cautious, slow and polite coming and going. Best we've ever encountered. We don't have a snowmobile either, the hike back out was a bit hard for us grandparents and a snowmobiler was kind enough to give our sleds a tow up the rest of the way when he saw us struggling. If the kids aren't pulling loaded sleds there is likely no problem - we saw other kids go up it like it was a sledding hill - it was fairly packed snow.
