Taking a newbie ice fishing this weekend at East Canyon. But I have never fished East canyon myself. Any tips on some good spots to go? Want to get them addicted to ice fishing so I have someone to go with more often. Any recent reports would be nice as well!
Thanks!

I have not fished East Canyon this year but I have done well in the past by parking at the boat ramp area. Then hike back towards the dam. Fish the point that you are walking past in 8 - 20 feet of water. You will need to be willing to move around some until you find where the fish are moving through.
See the attached map.

That's exactly where I was going to recommend. That point is good for smallies in the summer, too.

Thanks! The latest report I've seen says the ice isn't very stable and to stay on the South end. Anyone know if that area has good ice?

Do you have to pay to park by the boat ramp? I'm a cheap-skate.

I honestly don't "know", but the south end is shallower overall, which is likely why it is more frozen. But, right down by the dam is partially shaded much of the day in winter, and unless the lake level is fluctuating, I'd be shocked if it isn't frigid and thick (kinda like my ex-girlfriend! Ha!) by the dam.
And I am not a CrappieMaster by any means, but you hear a lot about them suspending over deep water in winter, or hanging out in old creek bottoms and basins down deep.

Yes, you have to pay to drive to the boat ramp, you also have to pay at the East side where the Vault toilet is.

If you go very often by the season boat pass I think 70-75 bucks it's good for a year and at 9 bucks a trip it pays for itself fast and it's good at all state marinas good luck [bobhappy]
