I'm headed to Redington Beach FL to attend a wedding in mid-March. I was hoping to get some fishing squeezed into the schedule. I have never been to Florida and am starting from scratch. The opportunities are endless. Not sure whether to fish inshore or off. I'm unsure about bringing some of my own gear or not. So, I'm looking for suggestions. Anyone out there have ideas or an outfitter/guide to recommend? Any advice will be appreciated.

Did you post this on the florida board by chance?

Yes, you have many options from the high $ end of a gulf sportfishing charter at nearby Clearwater Beach to the low $ end of beach/surf fishing for whiting, etc. at Redington and adjacent beaches.

If it were me, I would fish the flats of Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area with a guide targeting redfish and trout. The rod and reel that you use here can be used off the beach and the intracoastal waterway by Redington but you might get broke off if you use 6# test. You never know what's going to hit your bait in salt water.

I grew up in Tampa and often weekended in Redington but have been a long time gone, so I can't help with a guide referral. If you ever fish Steinhatchee or Port St. Joe, I can help there.

BTW you will be within driving distance of some good freshwater bass fishing. Enjoy!

I've been for the last 2 years since my son lives by Miami. My favorite was pier fishing at night. Good steady action. It also depends how much you want to spend. 1 trip would cost $250 - $600 for a guided tour. You can go down to the keys and fish underneath the piers and bridges with non-stop action. Use frozen squid. Generally not big fish so close to shore but unbelievably fun. Use heavy line on the pier. Have fun.
