Opted to skip the 20-ft boards and turn to open water, and well, I found it. All over!

Warm, Sunny, Calm - shoulda brought the boat! Some canoes outpaddling, seen a nice bass boat pass by to work the south dyke. Um, guess he hasn't read the proc to see that ALL of Cutler is limited to 35HP motors now.

Benson launch, all open, not a chunk of ice in sight. Numbers of carps jumping, but not much for biting.

Cache Junction - same story, all open, water at full pool.

Decided to run over to Newton since I was up that way anyway. Now THAT one is still a little less than full pool. Barely kissing the lip of the launch. Unless it comes up, don't think there'll be a whole lot of ski boats running that lake this year. (boohoo, so Sad! [frown])

Clay Slough all ice free, the Bear River launch also wide open, and river flowing, but fairly gently.

For those anxious catters out there, I'll try to get entries opened by the end of this week, and think with this early early spring - we'll look at cracking open the contest for entries come March 15th, unless Jack Frost returns and says otherwise. Then run through October, as was talked about last year. Maybe I'll finally figure out fall cats.
ooo open water, I am itchin all over to get on it.[Smile]

Yote, what you talking about 35 HP limit on all of Cutler? How can they regulate water skiers in a fishing proclamation? I think this needs to be challenged. I never heard this mentioned at all or was given any chance to speak out against it. Too much big brother here for sure. Later J

If I'm correct it is limited south of the foot bridge down to valley view

It's UPL rules, it's regulates the size of boats during times of years to bennifit waterfowl ie. nesting and brooding ..... It's been in affect for close to 6-7 years. The rules are right there posted at all docks....

Yeah it was us waterfowlers that pushed for it.... Sorry big boaters

Maybe they changed it for all year now , not just seasonaly.
To many water skiers hitting sprinkler wheelines I guess[Wink]

Oh so you're the ones that I can sue over increased crop damage from those !@&$ geese. Glad to have a name. Later J

Sooo, what your saying is, your not happy with the regs?
Cuz of the geese?
And your going to now sue waterfowl hunters who legally did nothing but say yea that would be a good idea, on private land?

I'm sorry. It sounds as if I struck a cord. I don't know the current regs, just stating what it was..... Jeez

I'm sure Skunked is just kidding about suing you. He may be a little put out about the 35 HP motor reg tho because his is bigger.

I kinda figured.

He seemed a little upset

I found this on the web. It says as of 2007, Is it the most current?

some new points: Horse power dropped to 20 and the partial year restriction is for the Bear River proper starting at the confluence and going upstream.

I know that to be the original , but they changed it shortly after due to duck boats having 20-35 horse motors.

I was told it's safe to use smaller outboards south of benson marina, but from march -June it's wake less speeds.

So I don't know what the regs are now. They usually have the

Hey Bubby I remember your Dads buddy Verl was a real proponent for that change years ago.

Used to be that from the Trestle Bridge south to Valley View was 35hp, and wakeless. I can't seem to find it, but I heard and saw posted last year that the same restriction was expanded to cover all of Cutler and the Bear river.

But - as my lack of search hits prove, and our collective WTH??? confirms my gripe - why change the regs, but then not educate or enforce.

I don't make this shit up Jeff, I just spread the rumors when I hear them! I thought for sure I'd save a "proof" somewhere, but can't seem to find it. I'll keep looking.

I don't think it was a seasonal thing, but who knows - maybe it was tied to the drop-down. But I swear what I saw seemed to suggest it was all over, and permanent. Have to keep researching. Next time I get my mussels checked, I'll have to inquire.

They should really open up hunting for thems Geese! They sure are awful plentiful, and with the price of goose at the grocery, hell - maybe I'll take up birding!
Long as they stay off the City's golf course I guess.
Oh sorry I forgot to reply, I was kidding about legal action, but I'm not happy with the double slap down I'm getting. Telling me I can't use my boat and trying to raise even higher numbers of geese, when the current number costs me several hundred dollars every year to feed. Later J

Some people only see their perspective and leave it to others to pay for it. He wanted to take people out of the marsh during nesting season, we don't want more crops damaged it was an impass neither side willing to budge. We lost but I don't think the otherside won either because they made a false assumption that the boats were a problem. Most of the area is self regulating because big boats can't go in the shallows anyway and the geese don't typically hang where the big boats can go. So the reg won't help the geese it just discriminates against certain users. It's not fair or right, but I do have a 10 horse motor so they haven't shut me out completely just my water skiing. Kind of sucks when outsiders come in and tell you what you can and can't do in your backyard. Later J

Rod, if your attachment is the regs I'm eating crow now because those regs are actually ok to live with. They still allow skiing where and when you would want to and the controlled areas are really not good for big motors anyway. So I'm retracting my grumpy claws. Hope that is where the regs are now. I can live with that. Hoping Yote misread them applying it to the whole reservoir. Later J
