[Smile]Anyone who goes to Strawberry Today or Tomorrow! Would you please post how the ice is along the edges. My oldest son and I want to go from Strawberry Marina around Haws Point to Renegade. There was open water down where the dike use to cross south of where Madsen's boat camp use to be. It was between the little island and main mountain.

My son wants to see if he can loose another pole down the hole and catch it back 30 minutes later like two weeks ago.

Any suggestions please let me know! Is there snow on the ice, slush in the afternoon, etc. Thank You!

PS No fish photos! Just photos from the Daniel's fire site that slowed fishermen Saturday and one of Deer Creek's glassy surface today.

Sweet picture of the Reservoir!!

As far as the ice report I'm pretty positive she's alright....

I was there Monday and the ice was 12 inches thick in the middle so.....

I fished there Friday and it was 100% safe then. I plan to go again this weekend and am quite certain there will still be no open water except around the areas that have springs. Which by the way, those areas with springs can be very dangerous (first-hand experience).

Old_Coot, Are you aware of any other warm springs besides the ones I mentioned south of Haws Point where the old dike use to cross over to rainbow point. Any in Renegade Bay or Strawberry Bay?

Thanks

I was thinking of heading up there tomorrow (wednesday) and this information is encouraging to read, since I was feeling a bit nervous. If I go I will be happy to let you know what I experience.

There are some others that I remember seeing on the map but the ones I am very intimate with are the ones you are referring to south of Haws Point along the west shore just before getting to Horse Creek Bay. I actually went looking for those springs one winter thinking that there would be good numbers of fish "near the springs". I found the springs alright. Now I go WAY around them. Also, here is a post where Threekillerbee tells how he nearly lost his ATV there. Frankly, I am very surprise that we don't hear of tragedies in that area each year. I write this for the benefit of other readers because it sounds like you are already familiar with those springs.

But yea, except for those springs, that lake is pretty darn good still.

there is one right off haws point going into the main lake but like said by old coot the one so of haws is much bigger.

I'm also curious to see how the ice is holding on up there. I was up there on Saturday afternoon and it looked and felt like April! I'm no expert on ice, but it seemed that the top few inches were starting to deteriorate (maybe it was the snow on top melting and refreezing). The edges were surprisingly good at the marina boat ramp even though the ramp was mostly dry! I'm very curious to see how long the ice and edges will last. 1 week? 1 month? I guess it all depends on what the weather does.

No worries. The ice was a rock hard 12+ inches today with zero slush. Perfect walking conditions. I was cleaning fresh ice out of my holes almost the entire day, so for today at least, it is making ice up there. We will still be able to ice fish there for a good while yet. Edges were a non issue. Sleds and ATV's were cruising all over the place.

Was out on side by sides today. There are some ugly areas Haws had water on the ice off the point, the old dam, and in the narrows had some open water. Ice is still good but be careful with machines its coming to an end.

So the ice is good... hows the fishing?

[Smile]I was at Renegade yesterday. Three of us fished 4 1/2 hours and caught three fish. The fish caught were not worth the worry getting there. We had to drive off the lake to get around the open water south of Haws Point.

I have plans to go back Monday but will stay in Strawberry Bay area. The road to Renegade is snow packed but access would require snowmobiles or four wheelers. There is a five foot high wall the snow plow has left across the road.
