Way to go. Those are some nice fish. Thanks for the report and photos. Tube Dude makes some goodies that the fish can't resist.
How much ice is left up there in the gulch? I'm going to give it another try tomorrow in my tube.

[#0000FF]Nice work. I've been doing well the last couple of years on the Gulp goodies too...of course with the RIGHT jig heads.
My first trip over will probably be in a week or so, depending on whether Mama Nature stays on her meds.

Looks like you had better than a good day! Was there much ice to be concerned with?

Oh boy, boy.
That's a great day!!!

Awesome report, awesome day, nice walleys.

No ice anywhere to be seen except a few piles on the shoreline.

Ya the gulp leech fits Perfect on the wobble heads! That is my go to. From alpine lakes to streams to bass to everything else!

[#0000FF]I have gradually added quite a few different sizes, shapes and colors of the Gulp goodies to my arsenal. That has led to designing a whole range of specialized jig hooks...in addition to the wobbles. I make them down to size 6 and 8 for the small minnows and maggots. And I even make some 1/32 oz. heads on larger size 1 and 1/0 hooks for fishing larger Gulp minnows with a slow sink.
Oh yeah, I have also made up a bunch of new "Pistol Pats"...airplane spinners on wire molded into the wobble heads...and other shaped heads too. See the attached pic. Those little propeller blades spin at the slightest motion.
By the way, what depths were you finding the walleyes?

Those are cool! We need to have another tackle swap meet soon! I was bouncing the bottom in about 20'-30' sometimes casting sometimes trolling.

[#0000FF]Had a few other folks asking about another tackle swap thing. Shouldn't be too long until we can have another one outdoors.
In the meantime, you're always welcome to visit the playroom.

Pat that picutre of the spinner heads was great. I wonder if you have a photo of some of the heads with a variey of gulp or other products (minnows, leachs etc) rigged to give us an idea of the possibilities? Thanks.

[#0000FF]Sorry I don't have as complete a collection as I would like to have. I plan to gather a lot more success pics this year. But here are a few that might suggest some potential.
I originally started using the spinner blades on my plastics but quickly saw the potential for using them with Gulp stuff too. They have worked well but I just ran out of fishing this past year before I got all the pics I wanted.
The key is to balance weight and hook size with the type and size of Gulp you are using. For the 2 1/2 inch minnows a size 2 or 1 hook is about right. For the larger 3" minnows I usually use a size 1 hook. If fishing less than 12 to 15 feet deep I use a 1/16 oz. to 1/8 oz. head...depending on whether casting or vertical jigging.
In addition to the minnows I have been happy with the Gulp crawlers and "trout worms". The latter are great for breaking in half and tipping jigs for perch, trout, white bass and crappie. Several good colors. The bigger crawlers catch cats, walleyes, wipers, largemouths, etc.
I like the Gulp smelt color or white minnows. But I have also done well with the chartreuse shad and the fire tiger...with an appropriate hot colored head. And, as pointed out in this thread, the Gulp leeches are almost a universal killer.
Gulp products are spendy, but they catch fish for me when other stuff doesn't. You just have to learn to package it up protectively to keep it from drying out or "juicing" you or your gear. I put a few of each color in a small resealable plastic bag and then keep several colors in a plastic jar that oysters come in. Doesn't take up much space but keeps the stuff fresh...and clean.

So, are you using the Gulp that comes in the jar of liquid, or the ones that are packaged like other plastic baits ?? I have been using the ones in 10 packs, but am lookng to going to the jar baits this year !!
Lookng at your prop baits, are you cutting the eye off the jig hook and then wrapping the wire around the hook before molding or are you buying ring eye hooks to mold with ?? Those are really good looking. willh ave to try some on Monday. Have to repack trailer bearings on Sat !!
I prefer the bags I feel like the have more scent. As for price one gulp will last me 3+ fish unlike live bait you have to keep re putting on.

Thanks Pat, those photos were helpful. Also thanks Catcherman for the post on Starvy - it was exciting to hear the fishing is picking up there.

Did you by chance have a fish finder that told you the temp of the water?
