I'm curious is there a process that I would have to go through if I went out on my float tube with no motor, just float tube, wader, fin, and fly gear.

Quote:R657-60-5. Transportation of Equipment and Conveyances That Have Been in Waters Containing Dreissena Mussels.

(1) The owner, operator, or possessor of[red] any equipment or conveyance that has been in an infested water or in any other water subject to a closure order under R657-60-8 or control plan under R657-60-9 that requires decontamination of conveyances and equipment upon leaving the water shall:

(a) immediately drain all water from the equipment or conveyance at the take out site, including water held in ballast tanks, bilges, livewells, motors, and other areas of containment; and

(b) immediately inspect the interior and exterior of the equipment or conveyance at the take out site for the presence of Dreissena mussels.

(2) If all water in the equipment or conveyance is drained and the inspection undertaken pursuant to Subsection (1)(b) reveals the equipment and conveyance are free from mussels or shelled organisms, fish, plants and mud, the equipment and conveyance may be transported in or through the state directly from the take out site to the location where it will be:

(a)(i) professionally decontaminated; or

(ii) stored and self-decontaminated; or

(b) temporarily stored and subsequently returned to the same water body and take out site as provided in Subsection (5).

(3) If all the water in the equipment or conveyance is not drained or the inspection undertaken pursuant to Subsection (1)(b) reveals the equipment or conveyance has attached mussels or shelled organisms, fish, plants, or mud, the equipment and conveyance shall not be moved from the take out site until the division is contacted and written or electronic authorization received to move the equipment or conveyance to a designated location for professional decontamination.[/red]

Is Deer Creek and infested water?

Yes a tube has to be decontaminated.

Because I fish Deer Creek often and other lakes sporadically with my float tube, I'm considering buying a second tube for lakes not on the naughty list.

I'll still have to follow the decon rules, but I worry about my tube more than my boat because the little pockets and material hold mud and moisture better than my metal boat does.

My guess is that many of us will be investing in high pressure, hot water washers to do the job our selves. Float tubes and toons will present an interesting problem due to the material they are constructed of. Bladders may not hold up to the high temps, 170 degree, and the material of the cover may not hold up to bleach. So, to pressure wash your unit will mean having to take bladders out to wash or find some other means to decon the unit. Personally, I am planning on purchasing my own pressure washer rather than doing the commercial routine !! My guess is that most of the consumer ones will not go over 140 degrees, so I will have to find an upgraded unit that will get hot enough !!! LET THE GAMES BEGIN !!!!
Big reason I'm not putting my pontoon boat in deer creek. Maybe someone can let us pontoon guys know if there is any problem spraying these pontoons with hot pressurized water. I'm not concerned about bladders, having a bladder less pontoon boat.

up2 did you get a new boat, or was yours always bladderless?

NFO has let me know that these boats can take the powerwashers so I am good. But I do have several boats and I was thinking of making my Assault a DC boat. Getting ansty to try it. I just want to be able to back right up to the water.

I think the units that the DWR use are only 140 degrees. I've had my tube done a few times at Electric Lake and it has bladders (Outcast Fish Cat) with no problems. Just remember to let some air out first.

Unfortunately, even if you own the hot pressure washer it will not count towards 'Professional decontamination' and your vessel will still need to sit in time out until the designated amount of dry days are achieved.
I know,bummer.

Something for us all to think about: Not aimed at you MasterDaad.

The lakes that are KNOWN to be infected are ones that have probably been infected for quite awhile before it was discovered and announced.

How many lakes have now been infected from the supposedly then SAFE lakes ie Deer Creek and Powell? Was Deer Creek infected by a boat from Powell before it was announced that Powell had a problem?

I know that in a mild or beginning infestation the chances are smaller of picking up a problem, but the chance is still there.

Treat your equipment as if EVERY water you fish is contaminated not just the known ones!

Household vinegar is used as a disinfectant would it be an alternative to bleach or hot water? It would be more gentle to bladders and covers than bleach.
