Does anyone know anything about Gunnison Reservoir? I have never fished there, but my daughter is a student at Snow College and I was thinking of taking her out fishing when I go visit this weekend. Is there ice on it? Is the fishing any good? From what I can find, it has carp and trout. Any info is appreciated.

I have fished it but never through the ice. Just from my pontoon and if I had to go through the ice I would stay near the west end but if the ice is still good there will be lots of frozen over holes indicating the most popular places.

Gunnison Reservoir has no fish at this time. It was killed out by the DRN. It did have catfish up to 30#. I have heard that slimmers are to be stocked.

[#0000FF]Going back a few years (too many), Gunnison was a super pond for nice largemouth and big perch...as well as hefty catfish. But as water user demand increased and droughts came and went the lake has been frequently completely dewatered.

But it has been a good carp factory to contribute to the population in Yuba each year when it is drained again.

Tony, take her to PaliSade State Park. I bet it has open water.

Well sounds like Gunnison is out. I am sure glad I asked. that would have sucked. I wsa looking at PaliSade or Yuba (thanks Kent). I also saw a little reservoir on google in Moroni called Wales reservoir. Anyone know if that is even accesible for fishing. looked tiny, but you never know. . .

I second PaliSades. It's not hard to get to. It's big enough to have lots of fishing spots from shore but small enough to not be intimidating for a daddy-daughter fishing trip.

Yearns up Manti canyon is a good one to catch lots of little rainbows. With all this warm weather you should be able to get to it.

Gunnison Reservoir would be a waste of your time along with Wales Reservoir. You might get carp in the latter, but these are not considered fishing lakes by most these days. I've heard of guys bowfishing for carp at Wales.

PaliSades is completely open water today. Catching has been fair for tigers and planter bows.

As of two weeks ago you couldn't get into Yearns. It is also hard to get into Lake Hill
up Ephraim canyon without a snowmobile or a little hiking through the snow. You can't take a truck to the lake currently.

PaliSades is probably your best bet.

I know the guy who runs the fish hatchery in fountain green and he was telling there was another fish hatchery that had 40000 rainbows that they didn't know what to do with so they dumped them into gunnison res. I don't know if the trout were able to survive in that lake but that was three years ago so there could be some good sized ones now if you ever hook into one. I would fish it for carp on the south end where you can take the turn to go there instead of paliSades. There is a channel that runs through the middle where the carp stack up. I would fish it three hundred yards north of the dam. If you want to catch a lot of fish go up to yearns. Its on 5th street in manti and head up the canyon for fifteen minutes. The best spot is fishing straight up from the cattle guard on the north west side. There still might be ice though but just throwing out worms I would usually catch at least ten in two hours. This is where I would teach people how to fish because you can catch so many. All kind of small but I did pull out a three and a half pounder 22 inch one once.
Nine mile was always my favorite for big fish but I heard it got drained this last fall. Maybe if the future it would be good but I would catch nice fish there with rapalas. I would have the most luck this time of year at paliSade. I would fish the dam and use gold jakes and we would get up to four pound tigers but not very big rainbows. Somedays the only thing I could get them to touch were white tube jigs.
I went to snow college and would go fishing up to five days a week so I know all the lakes pretty well. Its a fun place to be.
I don't know how to post pictures but I'll try to post a pic from nine mile
PM me if you have any questions about any of those lakes.
