Preston hooked into this fine rainbow and a few minutes later a golden eagle swooped in to haul it off. The eagle gave it up but came back and took a smaller fish. Amazing site

Nice rainbow Matt. Would have been a shame to lose that one. Get a measurement on that bow?

Was that at SC by chance?

Glad y'all got that one back. That would have made me sick to have a nice fish like that turn into bird food.

Thanks Kent
The fish ended up 22" and too big for the golden eagle to haul off.

I have been hit by an eagle for the last two years on the SC side (might be the same one). He knows what he is doing at this point, but i have not seen him this year. He came up behind my friend and stole his fish. My friend is a grown man, and squealed like a little girl, due to the sound of the wings swooping behind him. Good times! Watch your back!

Nothing like the locals coming in for their share.

I bet it was the same bird too. It was a golden eagle and he did not fear humans at all. After he realized he couldn't haul off the big fish he saw we had a couple smaller rainbows and came back and took one right under our feet with no hesitation. I laughed in amazement to what I had seen. Gotta love nature

He just must not want to be bothered. I have seen a golden eagle fly off with a small deer. There're videos of them on youtube taking chamois and goats. I bet he downsized for convenience.
