Finally shook the Willard skunk stank off today. I fished Willard twice last week and didn't catch a single fish. Fished for about 2 hours this morning and caught 4 wipers. Had a few other bites, but failed to hook em up.

Boat or shore?

It's roller coaster fishing this spring. Good to see you caught some today.

Looks like a boat in the pics

Nice job! They look fat and healthy. I'm sure they gave a great fight.

Mike4cobra and I got out there for a few hours this afternoon but only picked up one 19" eye. Very nice afternoon with calm condition and only a slight breeze. Glad to hear you did better than we did. Thanks for posting your report and pics.

do you have a white truck and lund?
[signature]
I have a white GMC and a 14' Lund. I'm pretty sure WH2 has a light gray Sylvan ?

I have a silver ford ranger with a tan Sylvan but I fish with several members, one has a white truck with a dark colored Lund.

Has the carp spawn started yet? I got a new bow fishing setup I'm dying to try!

[#0000FF]Still a bit early for the spawn. That won't happen until water temps are around 65...probably about a month from now. Different every year depending on weather and water levels.

But...they are starting their "dating" routine...clumps on the surface right after daybreak and before water traffic and breezes ruffle the surface. Sometimes these are close enough to shore for easy shots. Usually better if you sneak up on them from out in the water.

If you pick the right spot on shore you will also see them cruising by in very shallow water...trying to soak up some sun while looking for food.

The real spring fling is generally from about the last of April through May...and even into June. Cold fronts and fluctuating whether can spread it out a ways.

One word of advice is to avoid shooting inside the State Park area. They frown on slingshots, bows and firearms inside the park. Double check the current rules. But when the carp get busy they form endless daisy chains all around the shoreline and there are plenty of places to shoot without getting in trouble with the rangers.

Thanks tubedude! I'll be out there on my boat a couple times per week once the spring fishing really gets hot! I'm pretty new to BFT, but I'm looking forward to trading info and meeting up with some of you on the water!

[#0000FF]If you have a boat you will have plenty of carp shooting opportunities. And when they get "romantic" they make themselves very visible.

The attached pics were all taken at Willard. The first one led to a funny interlude. Some guys in a boat thought I was fishing a wiper boil and came roaring up on me (in my float tube)...almost running over me to get to the splashing. After they made a few casts into the melee they realized they had been fooled and roared off without even a howdy to me.

After today I am 0 for 3 at Willard. Actually saw a couple of boats landing fish which didn't make me feel that much better. Maybe next week!!

You were not the only one that smelled the skunk today, we did foul hook a carp but that don't count and we never saw another board get a fish in their net.[Sad]

Well, I'm leavin the boat at home tomorrow, I only have a few hours so I'll hunt the canals! Maybe a couple more warm days and it'll kick off... I'm going to hit a few evenings up there next week to sure!

Saw 8 to 10 people fishing the shore in the SW corner and Freeway bay. There were a few in the channel of the south marina, so you will likely have a little company. Good luck if you get out there and I'm sure you are right about the catching picking up again after a few days of warm weather. Barometer was high yesterday and that is what I'm blaming my lake of success on, at 30.7 to was the highest reading I've seen in years while I'm fishing[crazy].

Sweet pictures there, TD.

That was me and the whole fam having a bbq in the sw corner. Caught a few wipers while we was at it.
