Fished Deer Creek today at Rainbow Bay. Barely 4 inches of clear ice with a thin cover of snow. Heber valley was socked in with thick fog until about 11:00. Fishing was slow. Caught a few rainbows and one brown, but no perch. Trout were cruising from about 5 ft to 25 ft. Most fish came off the bottom in about 20 ft of water. Used jigs w/ plastic, and perch rigs, tipped with maggots and wax worms. Those Deer Creek bows are real chunks.
Ice was thinning a bit as we went deeper and did not venture beyond the 25 ft. depth. It's a little spooky when the ice cracks as you're drilling a hole and you cannot see beyond about 50 yards. Checked the ice near the "island" marina on the way home. It's about 4 inches near shore, but thinned to about 2 inches about 100 yards out. There is still some open water near the "island".
Once the fog burned off, it was a beautiful day with little if any wind. Caught fish, good company, great weather, and not at work. All in all, a darn good day!
