We are in the thick of tarpon season here in Islamorada, Florida. The weather the last week has been flat calm and look to hold for a little while longer. This has encouraged thousands of tarpon to push in from the gulf to all the usual areas from the everglades to locally around Islamorada. Fishing has been stellar this week there has been good bait around and tarpon have been active every day this last week. We've been fishing a lot of live mullet and the bites have been epic to watch. A large mullet fleeing for his life as a 100 lb fish tries to eat him is truly something to witness! We've also had great fishing in other areas. The gulf has been loaded with tripletail we had three really good days of that last week, with a handful of keeper size ones for dinner. Today we had our limit of hogfish out on the patch reefs after we had good tarpon action first thing in the morning. A great way to end a half day trip. The bay fishing for snapper and trout has also been excellent and great opportunites for snook and redfish on the flats if your into sight fishing. As we get into April that is usually what we consider 'prime' bait fishing time for tarpon and that lasts through May. Summer time is very good too though we often start fishing different baits and different styles. The 2015 islamorada tarpon season is heating up fast get on down here if you have the opportunity!
