Never fished Utah lake but I hear it holds some decent bucket mouth. Gonna take a buddies boat out and try to catch a few. What section of the lake should I fish?

I don't fish them. but from what I understand, the mud lake area is a good spot, tossing jigs.
Might want to do a search on this site and looks for past years reports with locations.

Deep in the reeds. Have tried many a time for the LMB in Utah Lake with little success when targeting them. Have mostly caught them (and mostly smaller ones) by accident fishing for other species[crazy].

fish in and around the north marinas, their should be some large mouths in all of them, also where the jordan river dumps out. black and blue jig with a trailer of some kind should get bites, big senko's work too.

That is the best boat ever!

Caught this one the other night by accident; not a great pic but I wanted to get it back in the water quick; it was probably 16-17".
This time of year, they're in around the rocks by any of the harbors for the spawn. We caught one last year that went about 4-5 lbs.
Spinnerbaits and senkos are good choices, in the rocks. Good luck.

So you want to catch LMB at Utah lake. Do you have a flippin stiik, do you know what a flippin stik is?? You need a 71/2 ft. flippin stik, good quality bait caster and 20-30lb line. I prefer mono because there is some stretch other prefer braid. Senko's work, but a 1/2 - 5/8 oz jig, Blue/black is my preference, with a Blue/black trailer and work the weeds, stay as close to the edge as possible and hit all the little pockets. I also use a swim jig ( chatter bait style) same colors mostly and work the edges of the weeds. Again, you need pretty hefty rig, 7ft, med hvy, bait caster and 20lb line. You can throw some square bill cranks with the same rig, fire tiger is my preference there. You can use your 61/2 - 7 ft spinner with 6-8lb line, but you won't have the power to first put a hook in one and second pull it out of the cover. There are other baits that work, but these are the rigs I prefer to use. Have fun !!
Hey thanks for the tips. I have 4 good quality baitcasters rods, two cheap quality baitcasters, and one cheap quality 2 piece flipping stick. I need three more reels is all.

[#0000FF]Where are you finding all this "weedy cover"...in the current low water conditions?

Thanks for the input. I got called into work so can't go out today but will definitely get after them soon.

The whole edge, even in the low water there are lots of phrags and reeds along the edge. My guess is that we will see a lot of new growth as enough sun light gets to new areas. When it is low like this, I usually will throw the swim jig, crank or spinnerbait. I also like the west side of the lake better than the east because it is a bit deeper.
