fished the gale-force-winds on Blackfoot reservoir Saturday chasing carp on a fly...had a great time! landed two, lost three in 3 hours. took us a while to find the fish, went up through Blackfoot but took the bone route back to idaho falls.

I tried over at Lake Walcott this weekend, but did not have any hook ups. The carp are usually in the coves by now. What flies did you have success on?

Are you willing to share where you found them? My son and I are wanting to make a trip soon.

Any help would be appreciated.

couple of nice mirrors.... hope you wacked them on the head and tossed them for coyote bait.... carp are easy too find, anywhere there is shallow water and sun.... usually mud flats or weed flats or gravel flats where the water warms up during the day, maybe near some old weeds.... carp are about the easiest fish too find, they like lots of cover or deep water near the shallows.... good luck, kill all of them.....

I have pretty good luck with light olive, brown patterns. I don't know if there is a name for what I tie, it has rubber legs, marabou for a tail. I tie in barbell for eyes (top of hook) so the fly rides hook side up.

Closest "official" fly would be a dragon fly nymph.

As far as location...we searched for quite a while. Had to find shallow water that had warmed enough to attract them. They we breaching the water- fun to watch. We were straight across from the dam- heading SE. I could see pickups parked over there. So we were on the east side. If you started at poison creek, head down road toward east shore and once get out of fenced area there are multiple turn offs that head to the water.

Good luck! Water is the lowest I've seen in years, I'm guessing we'll lose trout this year
