I have seen reports of people getting wipers from shore. I was thinking of heading out this weekend to see if I could get some while the kids played in the sand. Would the south west side give me any love? Also, What are they using? Can I float a crawler off the bottom and expect anything?

[#0000FF]The southwest corner is about the only place that consistently seems to attract wipers close enough for bank tanglers to score. Although there are a couple of other spots along the south dike that occasionally kick out a few.
Mussels seem to be the preferred bait. But the fact is that wipers are subsisting off anything they can find until the shad spawn and produce more babies. So the wipers eat crawdads, baby catfish or perch and just about anything else with "flavor". No deep dark secret that wipers eat nightcrawlers. Fish them on the bottom, under a float or on a slip bobber rig. Minnows work well at times too. I know of one guy who limited on wipers last year fishing pieces of hot dog for catfish.

Thanks. I will try some night crawlers and take some chicken livers for the cats. I have never found a cat fish that does not like chicken livers.
