No, not a fishing report, at least not yet...[:/] Just putting out for Jeff that if he happens to be on the water tomorrow, I am hoping to be up near his home turf. May not get there till around 11 AM. Will be doing a birthday breakfast for my daughter in the morning.
But I'm hoping to get something worthy to get my Cat Contest started.

Well at least you're optimistic about it.[

Hey Forest I've got to make a run to IF tomorrow but should be back before too late. Hopefully by 2-3:00 if you're still out. I'll PM you my number and a few ideas to try. Good luck finding the biggies. Later J

The weather isn't cooperating too much so far this Spring.
I was going to head over there but if it's breezy in town, it's surely a gale over at Benson.

I just got home after fighting wind from IF to home pulling a trailer and the wind was still blowing as I went past Cutler with whitecaps so I don't think I'll go try it either. Too bad I've been wanting to get after them all week and I just can't find a good time either. Too busy to go just when the weather cooperates. But I sure have the bug to try and find a good cat. I didn't ever hear back from Tin can so I don't know if he tried it or not. Probably not the best day to try. Later J

Guys, we got to Benson about 10 AM water was very calm. Just after getting the boat off the trailer, my son noticed the right hand trailer bunk was floating at the front. Pulled trailer out, and sure enough, the bracket that clamps to the trailer frame, then the bunk is screwed to that, had broken off the top of the frame bracket.
Was able to pull the bolt from the broken bracket and move it down to another hole in the frame clamp. Not real straight but it secured the bunk. Gonna have to get on line with Yacht Club, see if they have a bracket I can order.
The fishing was not much good, worked along the east side heading north toward Muddy Road, stopped several places in shallow water 1.6 to 2 feet. One few seconds of tug and reel provided some laughs and a good fish story. Drag on one rod started singing. Grabbed the rod, got the culprit up close enough to see it was a Carp. Getting ready to net it, and noticed the hook snagged in his dorsal fin. OK was a swim-by snagging. Got him into the boat, and here's the fish story.......he wasn't snagged, somehow he had gotten the line looped around him in such a way that the hook was over the line like a slip knot. Hook had not stuck in him anywhere and if I had given it any slack at all while reeling him in, it would have just fallen off.
Son and I had a good laugh out of it. Caught lots of mud cats as usual, then the wind jumped up about 2 PM. We decided to head back to the ramp. Wind kind of quieted down, and we dabbled around near the bridge. Then about 3 PM decided to call it a day, got the boat out and was getting prepped for the road, and the wind came up just a howling.......we timed our get out just about perfect.
I took a phone camera shot of that Carp I lassoed,[laugh] and sent it to my email, then deleted it off the phone....never came thru to my email..[mad].
I guess yesterday was the day for things to break.....the trailer bunk, and on the way home tried to roll my window down, and it groaned and ground, and made other noises that aren't good in a power window, then stuck half way. Got home, took the door panel apart, and yep.....broken cable all bound up in the motor pulley. Got the window up and blocked up inside the door with some scraps of Trex left over from the boat trailer bunks ............. guess it's back to the dealer tomorrow........

Hey Forest that's pretty good if you're trick roping carp. Seems like I seen a cartoon once roping a rocket, kind of the same deal I reckon. Sorry the channels didn't want to play. I have snuck out a couple times this last week for an hour or so a trip and haven't done very well. My niece got a 25" er but I only got carp. Seems like the wind and cold have really thrown off my luck. If I wouldn't have had company I probably wouldn't even have tried. I have big exploration plans of a boat trip to try and find a honey hole, but just can't find a chance to make that trip happen. Guess I should have told you to go along the west side and further north. That slough by dads has a few channels but my numbers are always low when I fish there. If you do fish there try where the bear River channel dumps in. I've got a few on that delta area before. Trolling a minnow in the toon works good in that shallow spot. But it still isn't a hot spot. But this year I haven't found a hot spot yet. Even my favorite area is very slow. That's why I need to do some exploring. Cutler seems to have more bad spots than good ones so it takes time and patience to figure out and when you think you've got it they will drain it and things change and I get to start over again. I guess that's part of the fun of fishing though. Well better luck with the mechanical issues they are a pain but good you could rerig and get home ok. Later J

Since I somehow lost the photo in the transfer from phone to home email, I'm glad I had my son with me (Jeff, he's the one that was with me on the Flotilla last year), or I wouldn't have even mentioned it.
Here is the "rigged" bunk bracket

Here is what it should look like

I took the photos to send with my email to Yacht Club asking for price on a new one.

You're right Jeff, there are more bad spots on Cutler than good ones. Probably because it's such an open area and those Channels roam all over the place, finding what few deep areas there may be.
Cool that your niece got a 25" 'er...my biggest so far is 24". Comparing that to last year, where my biggest was only 25". They're in there, just few and far between. And the draw-down didn't help any.
I've noticed that whole west side (and east side) of Benson is getting hammered. Probably why the last couple of years it hasn't produced greatly for me like in years previous. I'm like you, I need to explore some areas and find some new honey holes. Too many fishermen these days, and what's

, most of 'em leave their trash laying around.
Let me know when you go out next, and I'll try to meet up with you. We need to grab Mike and Tin Can as well.

Hey Forest that looks like a good fix for getting home. Good job. Guess we need to put a Flotilla on the calendar soon so we can start planning. I would be glad to do one here again but we haven't had the best luck fishing wise here. Do you have an idea of somewhere else that might be better? We do have two areas here we haven't floated before that we could do if people want to try other Cutler areas. We have the south end valley view to Benson marina or the section from Benson to Cache junction. Both are shallow but can hold good fishing areas. Later J

Derek it looks like a couple storms on the way but next Friday and Saturday look ok. Are you free then? I'll probably try a trip then for a couple hours anyway. I'd like to put my setline out and check a couple spots I think might hold fish. Let me know. Later J

Jeff I'll try for Friday afternoon after I get off work. Saturday morning is a good option as well.
Keep me posted.

Sounds great let's hope the weather holds and see if the other guys are interested. We can take my boat it's got dinged up props so it works good out there. Keep in touch. Later J
