After the past 3 years of wearing skateboarding shoes while hiking I'm finally considering to buy some good water proof hiking shoes so I was just curious what brand and model do you recommend? Most of the time I'm hiking around rough rocky or steep terrain in the Uinta mountain and a few other places.

Boots are like cars. Ya gotta try them on to find the perfect fit. Goto sportsmans and cabelas and look at different brands, try them on etc,.. I think cabelas even offers a place to test them out. At least in grand junction they do.

I have put many miles on kenetreks they are my favorite boot for steep terrain they are expensive but worth it in my opinion.. If I am just strolling around on trails easy walking I like danners but I get just the light hiking shoes not boots in danners. Good luck spend the money and get something good I've never regretted buying a good pair of shoes but I have regretted buying cheap junk shoes

I rest my case for all my negative comments this one beats them all

Maybe in a few years I might buy some of those Kenetreks boots. I love how durable they look but for 300-400 flying out of my pockets now isn't going to happen anytime soon.

On a budget, Hi-Techs, and Rockport are good for the money. You will find them at places like Big 5 for $ 50-80.00, and they will last a couple of seasons, unless you wear them everyday. Get a good fit and break them in before big trips.

Danner pronghorns are a good boot for the price.
