Looking for a little help,
My nephews who live in Eagle Mountain want me to take them fishing while I am in town. I'm just looking for some advice on where to go. We will be limited to fishing from shore. Looking for fast fishing to keep them interested. I was thinking about taking them to a community pond in Herriman? But I'm willing to make a drive for a successful day.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks!

There's a nice community pond at Highland Glen Park in Highland, but I have no idea how the fishing would be for you. The road to it runs along the south side of Lone Peak High School, which is on 4800 W in Highland (the road that the American Fork temple is on).

channel cats are being caught at Utah lake; not fast yet, but some being caught off of the dikes and in the marina that I've seen. check some other reports, deer creek reservoir could be an option for trout. good luck

Highland glen, Manila creek pond, or Tibble fork reservoir. This weather sure is changing the fishes mind in the ponds lately. In the past week I went fly fishing right after work for couple hours at kidney pond and only catch about 5-10 on a #12 black woolly bugger or a #12 damsel nymph that I tie.
Your best bet is fishing Friday or Saturday when the weather clears up.

What about Vernon Res? It's about 1.5 hours south west of eagle mountain. I heard the fish are biting..

I've never fished over there so I'm not sure about that place.

It isn't full and will be drawn down quickly once irrigation starts. It was a zoo when I drove past it checking on cattle over easter weekend. Vernon used to be fun til the masses "discovered it". Bless their hearts.[frown]

I heard the "masses" can do that. That's too bad though. I hate to see those well hidden wonders of Utah get discovered by the"masses" and become not so fun anymore.

Please don't think that I am against folks finding neat spots to go fish or camp. I probably could of worded that different. I just remember not to long ago Vernon Res was pretty much vacant during the week and would have 10 camps on a weekend. Now there are nights during the week when 30 camps is the norm and weekends over 100. It has really changed but that is life I reckon. The joys of public land, which are both wonderful and

. I like to get away from crowds and noise when I camp. When spots get discovered, solitude gets sacrificed most of the time.

You could also try Cherry Creek Reservoir, its south of Vernon Reservoir. Very small wild rainbow trout live there. Great place from what I here, and probably less crowded.

Thanks for the suggestions! We decided on Highland Glen, we will see how it goes!

Thanks for the suggestion. We ended up catching 4 fish between everyone trolling little flatfish from a raft. They were all larger then the 9" fish that were stocked, so they must have been some holdovers... Not fast fishing, but the kids had fun in the raft and it was nice to be outside! It seemed like everyone else was fishing power bait and only saw a few fish being caught all evening.
