Pulling crankbaits or spinners/spoons, I always use a swivel mainly to aid in quick lure change out. When fishing soft plastics and jigs, tie straight on!

Spinners and spoons yes. Otherwise I either tie direct or I use small round-nose snaps. Using the small snap isn't much different than the split ring on many lures, but allows a quick change.

Never use them, I lost a very big large mouth because of a snap swivel so I quite using them in 1975. I use split rings or if I need I will tie a barrel swivel in line for spinners.

there is no need if your casting. If trolling i go, braid- swivel- floro leader - lure. you could put a quick change clip on the end of the floro but i dont use swivels on the lure.. For jigs and lures you want to swim freely tie it on with a loop not.

I use a swivel 3 to 5 ft above any lure and just a snap to attach them, makes for a easy change.
rapala tells you not to use a swivel on most of there lures.

When casting spoons and spinners I use a swivel to help reduce line twist. Doesn't do much to the action at all. When using my trolling rig or fly and bubble I will use a swivel as well then attach a least and the fly or bait will be attached to the leader. When casting cranks or spinner baits I use a clip for quick and easy changes.

I sometimes do, sometimes don't. I've read all over the place that adding swivels to spinners and spoons hurts their action, but I have yet to see any evidence of that, at least in the size I'm throwing (very small, for trout generally).
Seems like a high quality ball-bearing swivel makes life a lot easier when I'm using panther martins or vibraxes on the lower Provo.
That being said, I still just direct tie sometimes.

About the only time I use a swivel anymore is when I do anything resembling a Carolina Rig. I occasionally use a cross-lock snap when I know I'm going to be changing lures often, but only with spinners, spoons, or hard jerkbaits. If I'm fishing jigs, I always tie directly to the hook eye. Jigs behave completely differently when they have any type of loop instead of a tight connection on the eye.

I've tried it both ways and never noticed a difference in the amount of fish I catch. I guess it all depends on how often you like to tie knots.

I figured I should mention since it was allueded to in another post that quality makes all the difference. In my opinion using Danielson or South Bend snaps and swivels is worthless. I'd sooner stay home than use one of these worthless items. High quality ballbearing swivels and snaps makes all the difference. Of course combining that with high quality, small diameter lines and excellent knots adds to your success.
